Most flower beds fade at the end of summer. It is at this time that the time comes for the preparatory work for the next season. There are a number of works that need to be done at this moment.
Seed collection
Most annuals and biennials bloom in August. Gardeners start collecting and harvesting seeds in order to grow seedlings from them in the spring and plant beautiful plants again.
At the end of summer, seeds are collected:
- calendula;
- matthiola;
- nasturtium;
- pansies;
- sweet peas;
- carnations.
Only the most beautiful and healthy crops are chosen. The seeds are sorted out, removing the empty ones. Then it is carefully packed in a dry, paper bag, marked and put away in a dry, dark place for storage.

Planting bulbous plants
In August, they start planting bulbous primroses, which will decorate the garden as soon as the snow melts.
This is the optimal time to disembark:
- hyacinths;
- lilies;
- crocuses;
- daffodils;
- muscari;
- hazel grouses;
- tulips.
A place for organizing a flower bed with primroses is chosen on a hill, without stagnant moisture. Because too wet soil is detrimental to tubers.
They prefer light loam that conducts air well. A plot with good lighting, protected from strong, cold winds.
Perennial transplant
Perennial plants are transplanted to a new location in August-September. The procedure is started immediately after flowering. At the same time, the division is carried out:
- peonies;
- irises;
- astilbe;
- phlox;
- edelweiss.
At the end of September, the following is placed in a new place:
- asters;
- hellebore;
- small petals;
- heliopsis.
The division and transplantation procedure is carried out as follows:
- At the end of flowering, the plant is dug up.
- The roots are gently shaken off the ground, rinsed in water.
- Long and damaged processes are cut off.
- The aerial part is cut off and cut off.
- The rhizome is divided with a sharp, disinfected instrument.
The perennial is immediately placed in a new place.
Lawn preparation
In August, they prepare a place for a lawn:
- Weeds are removed.
- The site is dug onto a shovel bayonet.
- Level with a rake.
- Organic fertilizers are applied.
14 days after preparation, lawn grass is sown.
Most often used:
- bluegrass;
- Clover;
- fescue;
- ryegrass.
These plants are easy to care for and highly resistant to trampling.
Sowing flowers on a flower bed

Cutting of conifers
In August, they start grafting conifers.
Any parts of a tree or bush are suitable for reproduction:

- juniper;
- yew.
From the main shoot, cuttings are harvested from:
- araucaria;
- fir;
- ate.
Choose a healthy plant with no signs of disease. The shoot is cut off with a sharp, well-disinfected instrument in a solution of potassium permanganate. The cut is processed with "Kornevin". The stalk is buried in a previously prepared substrate by 1.5 cm.
Top dressing of plants blooming in autumn
If there are flower beds with plants blooming in the fall in the garden area, in August they begin to feed them. The event allows you to get bright colors and long flowering, up to frost.
These colors include:
- dahlias;
- asters;
- chrysanthemums;
- phlox;
- rudbeckia.
Complex preparations with a high content of potassium and phosphorus are used.
In late summer - early autumn, many types of work are carried out in the flower garden. Plants are prepared for autumn flowering, winter cold and the coming season.
