Why the SKS carbine is so popular among hunters these days

The Simonov self-loading carbine is not a young weapon, to put it mildly. Despite this circumstance, SCS still enjoys immense popularity and recognition. Especially in hunting circles. And for many, this state of affairs will seem strange. A logical and quite natural question will arise: is there really nothing better among the "young" samples of carbines?

A self-loading carbine designed by Sergei Simonov was developed in 1945 and officially adopted in 1949. The carbine was produced until the early 1950s. During this time, more than 15 million units of this weapon were produced in the USSR. The weapon uses cartridges 7.62x39 mm, ammunition is supplied from 10-cartridge sector magazines. The rate of fire of the SCS reaches 35-40 rounds per minute, and the muzzle velocity is 735 m / s. All this makes the SCS a rather formidable rifled weapon. Nevertheless, in the early 1950s, the carbine finally gave way to the rapidly developing automatic weapons and, first of all, the Kalashnikov assault rifle.

However, until the collapse of the USSR, the SKS was officially in service, although it was used as an auxiliary weapon. for units and formations that, in the event of war, would not have to participate in direct land fire contact. For example, the SCS was massively equipped with air defense units. In modern Russia, the Simonov self-loading carbine is also used, it is still in service with the Paramilitary Guard (VOKHR). Thus, many conscripts served not with the AK, but with the SKS.

The SCS became even more famous and popular in the early 1990s, when Russia was first allowed to sell rifled weapons to civilians. As a result, SCS turned from a military ceremonial weapon into a hunting one. The carbine allows you to confidently beat the beast at distances of 200-250 meters. High reliability and good shooting characteristics are complemented by the fact that today SKS is the most affordable option in its class. But in general, the "uncomplicated" design of Soviet weapons opens up the broadest scope for tuning.

The cheapness of the SCS is explained very simply: the weapon is not sold new. Today SCS is no longer produced, and therefore everything that ends up on the shelves of weapons stores is a few from the storerooms.
