Effects of boric acid on tomatoes

Boric acid treatment for tomatoes grown in a greenhouse or room is a must. It is very problematic to pollinate plants on your own. This process is quite laborious and painstaking.

Influence principle for tomato ovaries

The easiest way is to spray the plants with boric acid. This can be done during the formation of inflorescences and during the flowering period. It will be better for the plant if you do this twice in the specified time intervals.

Boric acid will help the formation of ovaries and, moreover, abundantly, actively bloom.

The manipulation is very simple to perform and has several additional advantages:

  • prevents shedding of ovaries;
  • when oversaturated with moisture, a boric acid solution will prevent vegetables from rotting;
  • sugar supply to tomatoes increases.

Boron is considered one of the most effective fertilizers for tomatoes, improving the appearance of the plant, contributing to its development and ripening of vegetables.

Signs of a lack of substance

With the complete absence or insufficient amount of boron, the following consequences may occur:

  • the culture will not be able to form ovaries, which means that vegetables are not formed;
  • the resistance of plants to various diseases will significantly decrease, and resistance to parasites will decrease.

Boron-deficient crops look like this:

  • shrubs have active flowering, but no ovaries are formed (with a slight deficit of boron);
  • the tops of the shrubs brighten and curl downward;
  • young leaves curl up, large ones become dark and break;
  • the stem dies;
  • stepchildren are formed in large numbers;
  • if the tomatoes can form, then they become covered with dark brown spots, followed by the death of the tissue.

To remedy the situation, immediately spray the plants with boric acid infusion.

Signs of a brute force

An overabundance of boron also has a bad effect on tomatoes:

  • a characteristic gloss forms on the leaves;
  • foliage is covered with brown spots;
  • the spotting increases, the leaves die off;
  • the middle of the sheet plate bends, taking the shape of a dome.

If an increased dose of the substance is diluted in the solution, the leaves with ovaries will fall off.

Correct preparation of the solution

It is necessary to familiarize yourself with the peculiarities of the manufacture of the product so that the treatment does not harm the plantings.

Optimal substance ratios and instructions

Prepare the base first. Take powder (1 tsp. without top), dissolve in hot liquid (glass). Dissolve the well-dissolved base in warm water. Even small particles should not remain in the composition. In this case, the solution is ready for use. It should not be stored for a long time, as a sediment will appear after a while.

Doses can be different depending on the purpose of the manipulation. To prevent shedding of the ovary, dissolve boric acid (1 g) in hot water (1 l). Once the composition has cooled, spray the plant with a spray bottle.

When fighting late blight, you can use the following solution: substance (1 tsp. l.) stir in warm liquid (10 l). To increase the effect, treat the tomatoes with a pale solution of potassium permanganate in seven days.

Correct processing of tomatoes

Spray correctly:

  1. Perform the procedure in the morning or evening, direct sunlight can burn wet foliage.
  2. The atomizer should have small nozzles, larger droplets are harmful to the plant.
  3. Try to spray the leaves on both sides, tilting the bush slightly.
  4. The temperature of the soil should be approximately the same as the temperature of the mortar.
  5. Compliance with the proportions is imperative, otherwise the plant may die or stop growing.
  6. Before processing, it is necessary to spray only one bush and, if there are no negative consequences, to process all the rest.

Treatment plan

Treatments should be carried out three times per season. For the prevention of late blight, the first procedure is done in the last days of June. It is necessary to carry out planting processing two weeks after planting seedlings in the garden. Perform the second spraying at the beginning of budding. Process the third time during the flowering period.

Nuances of the procedure

Plants grown in greenhouses require more boron treatments than outdoor crops because indoor pollination is much worse.

Pay attention to the following nuances:

  • if your structure is not ventilated, use a less concentrated product, it will in any case last longer on the culture;
  • keep in mind that with root treatment, the solution is absorbed by the culture longer;
  • according to Dutch technologies, feeding should be carried out regularly at intervals of 9-10 days;
  • the temperature of the liquid should not differ from the temperature in the greenhouse.

On an open bed:

  • irrigate powerful, healthy shrubs that have taken root on the site;
  • do not process after or during the rain;
  • fruits are formed in different varieties at different periods, so feed them at different times;
  • foliar treatment in an open bed brings a greater effect than root;
  • plants need to be nourished, even if they have a large number of ovaries, otherwise they may crumble.

Experienced gardeners advise and recommend

Check out some of the recommendations of summer residents:

  1. Do not spray young seedlings, it is difficult to maintain the proportions of the product for their treatment.
  2. A hot solution should not be used.
  3. To process seedlings, use complex micronutrient fertilizers, they contain boron.
  4. It is not necessary to carry out the procedure in the wind.
  5. Many gardeners add iodine (a few drops) and milk in a small amount to the prepared solution. In this way, you will protect tomatoes from parasites and diseases.

Precautionary measures

When processing, secure yourself as follows:

  • use closed clothing when spraying;
  • use a mask and gloves;
  • the substance may be flammable, it should not be stored near an open flame;
  • remove the remains of unused solution;
  • use fresh powder as it becomes more toxic when stored.

Observe all the necessary proportions and periods of processing, and then you will constantly collect a bountiful harvest of tomatoes from your site.
