Beets are a vegetable rich in vitamins and minerals. At the end of summer, the root crop continues to grow, accumulating nutrients and sugars. To get a crop with high palatability, the crop continues to be fed even in August.

Why beets need feeding

The plant prefers light, nutritious soil. With an insufficient amount of substances, roots ripen small and tasteless.

The following elements are required in sufficient quantity:

  • nitrogen;
  • phosphorus;
  • potassium.

Each of them is brought in at a certain stage in the development of culture.

Fertilizers containing a sufficient amount of nitrogen are used 30 days after the appearance of the first shoots. The element is necessary for the active growth and development of plants. Its dosage is gradually reduced.

During the period of pouring the root crop, formulations rich in potassium and phosphorus are introduced.

For active development and growth, organic and mineral fertilizers are used.

Organic fertilizers

At the beginning of the growing season, beets need a sufficient amount of nitrogen. During this period, feedings based on chicken manure are actively used. The fertilizer was especially effective on soil with high acidity.

To prepare the infusion, use:

  • chicken droppings - 1 part;
  • water - 12 parts.

The components are mixed. The container is closed with a lid and left to infuse in a dark place for 2 days.

For 10 m2 of planting, 10 liters of fertilizer are taken. It is spilled in the aisles so as not to burn the roots of the plant.

When using formulations rich in nitrogen, the dosage is monitored closely. An overabundance of the element leads to the accumulation of nitrates in the root crop.

Experienced gardeners recommend feeding the beets with saline in July. This fertilizer increases the sugar content of the vegetable and improves its taste.

Use the following components:

  • table salt - 300 g;
  • water - 10 liters.

The salt is diluted in warm water. Allow the mixture to cool, then spill in the aisles.

Weed infusion is rich in nutrients. For its preparation, use only healthy, disease-free weeds, tops and leaves.

Prepare the composition as follows:

  1. The barrel is 1/3 filled with finely chopped grass.
  2. The remaining volume is filled with water.
  3. Let it ferment for a week.

Then take 1 part of the infusion and dilute with 10 parts of water. No more than 1 liter is used per plant. Top dressing is applied strictly at the root.

It is permissible to use an infusion based on weeds 1 time in 14 days.

Mineral compositions

For maximum efficiency, organic fertilizers are alternated with mineral fertilizers. The first time they are used in the fall, when they dig up a plot for the future planting of beets.

During this period, 1 m2 is taken:

  • ammonium nitrate - 1 tbsp. l .;
  • superphosphate - 2 tbsp. l .;
  • potassium sulfate - 1 tbsp. l.

In the spring, before sowing beets, use:

  • nitrophosphate - 100 g;
  • potassium sulfate - 30 g;
  • humus - 3 kg.

If the soil is heavy, dense, clayey, its structure is improved by adding sawdust and lime, since sawdust increases the acidity of the soil, and lime neutralizes the reaction. For 1 m2, 1 kg of each component is enough.

In July, during the period of active fruit formation, the culture needs a sufficient amount of phosphorus and potassium. In this case, ash-based fertilizers are used. In addition to these elements, it contains boron, copper and magnesium.

To prepare the solution, you must:

  • ash - 2 stack.;
  • water - 10 liters.

Ash is diluted in warm water. Then allow to cool. Next, 1 liter of the solution is diluted in a bucket of water and spilled in the aisles.

Top dressing of beets at the end of summer

In July, the culture forms a basal rosette. During this period, experienced gardeners recommend using formulations rich in potassium.

For example:

  • potassium nitrate - 2 tbsp. l .;
  • water - 8 liters.

The ingredients mix and shed the plants at the root.

In August, in addition to potassium, beets require phosphorus.

Use:

  • superphosphate - 2 tbsp. l .;
  • potassium chloride - 1 tbsp. l .;
  • water - 10 liters.

Beets require additional nutrition to form large, juicy, high-tasting roots. Therefore, it is important to know which fertilizers should be applied in what period.
