Good day, dear readers!
For many, spring is the time for barbecue, outdoor recreation and just warm days. For me, the springtime means the beginning of construction work. And every year the construction site turns out to be different. This spring, I got the idea to create a barbecue corner in my country house. I decided to pave the recreation area with paving slabs.
I confess, the first impulse was to do everything on our own. However, after a while, I realized that the process would take a long time, so I turned to the builders on the advice of a neighbor on the site.
At the stage of approval, I negotiated the main points of the process with the contractor, purchased the necessary building materials in the market, ordered their delivery to the site and waited for the builders.
Upon arrival at the site, the foreman looked around and said that they did not need a mountain of river sand at all for work.
I began to tell him that it was good, washed sand, sifted from stones. I thought that the foreman was not satisfied with the quality of the material. However, this was not the case.
I live in the South Urals region and here the locals lay paving slabs on a mortar made of river sand and cement. I did not even think that laying could be carried out using a different technology. But my builders have revealed some nuances to me.
The foreman assured that there was absolutely no reason for concern. “Let's do it in the best possible way! To dispel doubts, I guarantee the quality of work for 10 years ”, - ended the conversation and left to lead the construction team.
I was assured that my tile floor will remain intact for a long time and the material will not fall apart. In the end, the construction team was advised to me by a neighbor whose tile was laid several years ago. And I trusted the contractor.
I needed to additionally purchase fine granite screeningwhich was used instead of sand. On the advice of the contractor, I also bought powder herbicide. This additive is necessary to prevent weeds from growing between the tiles.
If you use river sand for paving, the situation will be different. Even the sand washed several times and carefully sifted is not a guarantee that there are no weed seeds in it. After a while, weeds will sprout between the tiles. Can you imagine how hard it is to remove a dandelion or bindweed? No matter what I did, the weeds still grew on the site.
In the boundary screening, the grass practically does not grow, moreover, this material has a lot of weight. By combining cement with screenings, the result is a monolith.
The pros do not end there! In the event that there is movement or shallow sinkholes of the soil, the main load will be on granite. That is, the tile rests on a monolithic structure. Covering the screenings with additional mesh, you will increase the strength of the structure by 3-4 times.
I was pleased with the quality of the tiling team's work. I will enjoy relaxing on the site in the summer, and in a year I will write about its condition and whether weeds have appeared.
