To be honest, it never occurred to me before that window sills can be made not only of metal. This design is needed so that water does not get into the joint between the window and the wall. I think very few people think about it, because ebb tides are placed right with the windows by default.
Moving into my own home, I was unpleasantly surprised that in the rain I literally hear drumming. During the day, this obsessive sound does not allow you to work, and at night - to sleep. Then I decided to seal the seams between the ebb and the wall. For reliability, I filled up the voids under the ebb with foam.
These manipulations have brought some benefit. For example, the tides stopped shaking from strong winds. But I could not get rid of the sound of the drumbeat. I even wanted to come to terms with the problem, but everything was decided by chance.
Once we were visiting at my parents' house, and I noticed that the sounds of rain were not heard so loudly and clearly. It turned out that during a business trip to Germany, dad borrowed an interesting and useful idea from the Germans.
I want to note that in European countries, metal ebbs are rarely made. For these purposes, brick, wood or ceramic blocks are used there.
The windows in the parents' house are the simplest metal-plastic ones. True, dad decorated them on top with a rope and wooden planks. He made the ebb tide out of bricks. And I admired the effect that this know-how gave. The low tide does not sway in the wind, does not rattle, and even the strongest downpour does not drum on it.
Naturally, I asked my dad how he managed to beat the connection of the low tide to the window. Here are the schemes he suggested to me:
As you can see, there are no secrets or tricky technologies. Installation is similar to metal ebb.
1. In the first case, the brick is adjacent to the side of the profile, you do not need to start it.
1. In the second case, the brick must be brought under the profile, having previously sawed off the corner from the brick.
For any installation scheme, the space between the brick and the profile must be sealed with a sealant.
Sometimes brick ebb tides do not correspond to the general architecture of the building.
In this case, you can build silent concrete ebbs. They are performed quite easily; this can be done during the construction of a window opening.
Afterword
After work with concrete (pouring the foundation, reinforcing belts, floors), as a rule, excess material remains. The same thing happens with bricks. The remains of building materials can be used to equip window sills. This will save money on buying metal.
By the way, I advise you to treat concrete and brick with water-repellent impregnations so that the material is not saturated with moisture.
