The Soviet Pacific Fleet was powerful and strong, but no one was immune from emergencies. They are especially dangerous for submarines and their crew. After all, they sometimes have practically no chances to escape in the event of an accident. Therefore, as regrettable as it may sound, however, in the history of the Pacific Fleet there were tragic pages associated with the loss of submarines. To your attention, the " seven" of Soviet submarines, which remained at sea forever.

The Soviet diesel-electric torpedo submarine S-117 was originally called Shch-117 and was built back in 1932, being, in fact, one of the first submarines of the new Soviet fleet. Launched her two years later. However, having survived the Great Patriotic War, she died in the Sea of Japan thirty years later, in December 1952.

On December 14, 1952, the S-117 went to sea as part of the TU-6 exercises, the main purpose of which was to practice attacking targets by several submarines at the same time. At that time, the crew on board was 52 people, including 12 officers. The sub's task was to direct six other submarines to the ships of the imaginary enemy.

Less than a matter of fact after the start of the exercise, on December 15, the boat stopped communicating. However, they began to search for her only on the 17th, after there was a command to end the exercises. Despite the search operations, neither the place of death, nor the reasons for its disappearance became known. Moreover, in a situation where the submarine seemed to have sunk through the earth, there was even a version that the S-117 had been hijacked by American spies.

Diesel-electric missile submarine K-129 sank to the bottom and even on a holiday - March 8, 1968. Then she carried out military service near the Hawaiian Islands. There is no exact information as to when exactly - on March 7 or 8, the K-129 sank even today, but it was possible to find its location quite quickly. In addition, it became unequivocally clear that the entire crew of 98 people perished along with the submarine.

But even after the death of the submarine, she continued to excite the minds of many. And all because, being at a depth of more than five and a half thousand meters, it turned out to be unattainable for lifting by the forces of Soviet people and equipment. At the same time, it was impossible to allow it to go to the ideological opponents of the USSR - the Americans.

This is only partially what happened - on August 12, 1974, during the specially designed secret CIA operation "Project Azorian". Equipment was used that was designed just for this event. As a result of the operation, the Americans were able to lift the bow of the submarine from the ocean floor. The investigation, which was carried out by US specialists, found out the cause of the disaster: the K-129 died due to the operation of the engines of the R-21 missiles.

Alas, sometimes a collision with another ship can be the cause of a submarine disaster. This is exactly what happened on June 13, 1973 in the Peter the Great Gulf, in the Sea of Japan. There the nuclear submarine K-56 collided with the research ship Akademik Berg. Fortunately, this time the complete flooding of the submarine was avoided.

It was like this: the submarine was sailing on the surface to the base at night after a firing practice. At the same moment, the Akademik Berg was walking in the same square and rammed the starboard side at a speed of 9 knots K-56, clearly between the first and second compartments, resulting in a hole about four meters.

Only the coordinated actions of the submariners were able to prevent the death of the entire crew. The commander of the K-56 managed to throw the boat onto a sandbank, while 22 sailors were trying to prevent flooding in the first compartment. The same thing happened in the second compartment, but it was still flooded within a few minutes. The officers who were there managed to seal the bulkheads from the inside, which prevented the flooding of the adjacent compartments, and, accordingly, the entire submarine. However, the personnel of the second compartment died due to chlorine poisoning when the battery pits were flooded there.

The next day, rescue ships arrived at the scene of the collision, with the help of pontoons they removed the K-56 from the shallows and towed to the dock. Officially, this incident was called a "navigation accident with serious consequences." The victims of the tragedy were 27 people, including 16 officers, 5 warrant officers, 5 sailors, 1 civilian specialist from Leningrad. At the same time, at least 140 sailors survived.

On June 24, 1983, the nuclear submarine K-429 sank several miles off the coast of Kamchatka during a dive. As it turned out later, when the submarine began to go down, water began to flow through the ventilation system of the fourth compartment. The bulk of the air escaped through the same ventilation valves when the crew tried to blow through the main ballast. As a result, K-429 lay on the ground at a depth of 40 meters.

In fact, the main reason for the emergency was the fact that the boat was sent to sail for torpedo firing very urgently right out of repair, without properly checking the tightness. In addition, most of the regular crew was on vacation, so the team was urgently recruited and they simply did not have the opportunity to work together. These reasons led to the death of 16 crew members as a result of the disaster, the remaining 104 managed to escape.
