In Europe, the United States, as well as in some Asian countries, you can see very strange ambulances, on which the name of the car or the word "resuscitation" is written backwards. It is not very convenient to read inverted words. Why do foreigners use such a practice, and if it makes any sense, then why is nothing like this done in the former Soviet republics?
Each special vehicle has several distinctive features that set it apart from the rest of the vehicle. First of all, a special body painting and the use of flashing beacons. The above-mentioned feature of applying identification marks on ambulances directly stems from the technical features of the vehicles that are traditionally chosen for this role. The fact is that in most cases minibuses and vans are chosen for the ambulance. First, they are quite large. Secondly, they are quite high. All this allows doctors to settle down with the necessary level of comfort to solve their professional problems.
However, these machines have one serious problem: they are too tall. Because of this, ambulances periodically find themselves in unpleasant situations when their flashing beacons are simply not visible in the rear-view mirrors of the car in front. This happens especially often in dense city traffic. And here the same body markings should come to the rescue, which in fact remains the only way to identify the carriage.
Just for this, in some countries, the words "Ambulance" and "Reanimation" are written on the hood of the carriage backwards. If you look at such a medical machine through a rear-view mirror, then the above-mentioned inscriptions will look like absolutely normal and well-readable. As a result, the driver always knows that there is a medical car behind him and should be allowed to pass. Accordingly, if you write the words on the hood normally, then the driver will see them upside down, which means that the visibility of the resuscitation car in the stream will decrease.
As for the application of this practice in the former Soviet republics, in fact, this method of marking is used in our country as well. True, it is mainly applied strictly to resuscitation machines. Much more often, together with words, a blue or red cross is simply applied to the hood of carriages, which are already well known to every citizen, and most importantly, they do not need any mirror turning.
