Summer residents often face the question of what to do with the mown grass, which grows a lot on any garden plot. Indeed, in order for the territory not to turn into an impenetrable jungle, it is necessary to mow unwanted vegetation.
Green thickets not only spoil the appearance of the site, but also, rapidly growing throughout the territory, absorb nutrients from the soil intended for vegetables, flowers and other plants. In addition, grass in dry summers is a threat, as it can quickly ignite and cause fires to spread. In addition, pests and parasites are also found in weeds.
Let's look at the most useful ways to use mowed vegetation in the country.
Compost
If there is a compost bin on the site, the best solution to the issue of disposal of mown vegetation is to send it to the compost heap. Grass is a nitrogen-rich green component that generates the heat required for the compost to mature.
Other waste of the dacha economy can also serve as components of the compost heap: weeds, bird droppings, manure, rotten fruits, vegetables, etc.
The grass is laid in a compost chamber, taking into account the need to alternate wet (weeds, manure, fruit and vegetable residues) and hard (dry foliage, straw, bark and tree shavings) layers. This alternation is designed to speed up the maturation of the compost due to better oxygen supply.
Organic fertilizer
The herb, due to its high content of nitrogen, iron and potassium, can be used as an inexpensive but effective organic fertilizer. This natural dressing is an excellent way to improve the health of cultivated plants and stimulate their growth.
The cut grass can be used in two ways. The first is the most simple, but not very aesthetic: the plants are mowed and left to decompose on the lawn. The second way: preparation of liquid plant feeding.
The herb can be used as an independent component of the tincture, as well as its component. Ingredients such as manure, yeast, and EO nutritional supplements will add to the effectiveness of the feeding.
The technology for preparing a liquid fertilizer is as follows. Chopped grass and other green plants (dandelions, nettles, runny, etc.), wood ash, mullein are placed in a container and poured with water. The ingredients are mixed and left in a sunny garden to ripen for several weeks. For 5 kg of greenery, take 1.5-2 glasses of ash and 5-7 liters of mullein.
The container with the fertilizer being prepared should be covered with a lid, since during the ripening process the infusion will emit unpleasant odors and foam. The top dressing can be considered ready to use when the fermentation process is complete. The strained infusion is diluted with water 1 to 10. Watering garden crops is carried out at the root, about 1.5 liters of nutrient fluid is used per plant.
Mulch
The mown vegetation can not be removed from the beds, but spread over them in an even layer as mulch. A layer of grass will help protect the ground from overheating in the heat and will keep moisture from evaporating from the ground.
The benefits of using grass as mulch are obvious - the liquid contained in it is an additional nourishment for the grown plants. In addition, during decomposition, it releases nutrients into the soil.
Mowed lawn vegetation is suitable for mulching not only vegetable beds, but also the trunks of garden trees.
The grass that has dried up over time is renewed with a new grass stand. During the autumn digging of the soil, the herbal mulch is not removed, but embedded in the soil to increase soil fertility.
Unpleasant odor neutralizer
Not everyone knows that mown vegetation in the country can be used in a not entirely traditional way - as a neutralizer of unpleasant odors from the toilet.
Periodic pouring of grass into the cesspool, in addition to "killing" odors, contributes to the active decomposition of its contents. This method is not only affordable, but also harmless to humans and the environment.
Animal feed
If you or your dacha farm neighbors are engaged in breeding rabbits, poultry, small and cattle, then the issue with the disposal of weeds can be considered resolved. The herb is rich in fiber and is an excellent addition to the diet of animals.
We hope that the above tips for using cut grass in your garden will be helpful to you.
