When planning beautiful flower beds, many summer residents are primarily looking for flowering perennials, while forgetting about that there is a wide variety of decorative deciduous crops that will delight with the beautiful color of the leaves from spring to autumn. At the same time, even more gardeners do not know that among them there are also such perennials that radically change their coloring throughout the season.

Among decorative leafy plants, you can find specimens for every taste and under different conditions - with large and small, shade-tolerant and sun-loving, unpretentious and requiring good leaving. To make it easier for you to understand the diversity, I am telling you about my favorite perennials.

Coleus

The variety of colors of this plant will undoubtedly delight any landscape designer. "Nettle" leaves can be of any shade - from yellow to red, green, scarlet and even purple. At the same time, the leaves themselves are also diverse - with specks, edging or stripes.

In height, the bushes reach from 25 centimeters to half a meter. Most often, tall varieties are planted on the plots. Coleus are not demanding to care for, they are more willing to grow in well-lit areas of the garden and like regular watering. The plant reproduces without problems by shoots. Experienced gardeners recommend not to allow flowering - the buds are not very beautiful, and the plant spends a lot of energy on their formation. Coleus has a drawback - in cold regions it cannot be left outside. The plant is dug up and placed in tubs in the winter garden or simply in a bright and warm room.

Hosts

Another of the popular decorative deciduous perennials. Florists love the spreading rosettes with wide and leathery leaves, which come in different shapes, sizes and colors: bluish, yellow, green, spotted and striped. Among the hosts, you can choose those that best suit the design of the flower garden - both miniature and giant. The culture loves acidic soils and does not tolerate stagnant water, it multiplies by dividing the bush. For the winter, the plant can be left in the flower garden, the main thing is to cut off the leaves and mulch.

Heychera and Heycherell

A plant that amazes not only with a variety of colors, but also with the fact that during the growing season, the color of the foliage changes. Heuchera feel great in calm and shaded places on slightly acidic soils. They need to be watered often, while avoiding stagnant water. Unlike many perennials, the shoots of this plant are not cut in the fall, making the flower garden beautiful right up to the snow. To prevent the plant from freezing in the cold, in late autumn the bushes are covered with spruce branches.

Brunners

This culture will appeal to everyone who does not like to spend a lot of time in a flower garden and does not want to be puzzled about where it is better to plant a plant. It will grow anywhere and in virtually any environment. Brunner, in addition to beautiful foliage of all shades - from green to yellow with various patterns, will delight the owner with an abundance of blue flowers, very similar to forget-me-nots. During the season, flowering resumes twice: in early summer and closer to the second half of August. By winter, the leaves die again, and in the spring the green mass quickly recovers.

Rogers

One of the tallest plants. It can reach up to one and a half meters. It blooms with white or pink fluffy panicles. In addition, the plant boasts a wide range of leaf colors - from the usual green to coffee, terracotta and purple. At the same time, many varieties change colors throughout the season.

Rogers grow well in shady areas with fertile and well-hydrated soil. The plant is practically not attacked by harmful insects, does not get sick and is not afraid of frost. Before winter, the stems are cut closer to the ground and mulched.

This is only a small part of the plants that can be used to decorate a summer cottage. There are also a large number of ornamental grasses, grasses and ferns, which are no less beautiful.
