Passing through the territory of the dacha cooperative, in which I have the honor to be a member, I involuntarily pay attention to what fences are installed by brothers and sisters in gardening hobbies and out-of-town recreation on their plots.
The most common type of fences is mesh netting and profiled sheet. However, there are fences made of sheets polycarbonate. Consider the advantages and benefits of some of the materials that are used to create your own cozy corner outside the city limits.
Polycarbonate
This material, created by the chemical industry, has long gained popularity among summer residents. Excellent greenhouses are made from it, as it transmits sunlight even better than glass. Fences made of polycarbonate sheets are transparent and allow you not to cast a shadow on the bushes growing in the corners of the site.
Cellular polycarbonate is very popular, the thickness of which can reach 32 mm.
- By letting in the light of the sun, it traps ultraviolet light, which is beneficial for plants.
- The material is lightweight and durable. It is not difficult to install the sheets, mold and other living creatures do not multiply on them.
- Polycarbonate is not afraid of moisture. Given that the sheets of this material are available in a wide range of colors, there is no need to paint them. A powerful foundation is not needed under a polycarbonate fence, you do not need to take special care of it and you can wash it with plain water from a hose.
The advantages of the material are somewhat undermined by individual shortcomings.
- For example, when heated, such a fence can emit a crackling sound.
- An edging of the fence is required so that it does not deform.
- Despite its strength, polycarbonate is quite fragile and susceptible to mechanical damage.
- Strong winds can break the leaf.
- From the ends, the sheets of material must be sealed with tape to prevent the penetration of dirt.
What is the replacement for polycarbonate?
A good alternative to polycarbonate (and other materials) when making a fence in a summer cottage can be a shading mesh. This option is very democratic in price, and performs its functions no worse. On sale, you can most often see grids in two colors - black and green.
This mesh is secured with simple plastic (or nylon) clamps, which are sold in hardware stores. If the clamp bursts, it is a snap to replace it. If someone wants a more durable material for fastening the mesh, then wire can be used.
By the way, in order for the clamps to become more flexible, they need to be boiled for a few minutes.
Such a shading net is a champion in cheapness, because a roll (50 meters) costs only three thousand rubles. A simple calculation shows that the cost per square meter of this material does not exceed seven thousand rubles.
