Indoor plants, as well as plants in the garden, need some treatment in the fall. At this time, many of them are also preparing for the dormant period in winter. Today I will share my experience.
Placing flowers in the house
I place many indoor plants on a balcony or terrace in the summer:
- ficuses;
- myrtle;
- monster;
- palm trees.
They are unpretentious to care for and endure weather extremes. In addition, they have high decorative qualities and create coziness on the terrace.
As the temperature drops, I bring them into a warm room. But, before finally placing them for the winter, I do a few manipulations:
- I treat it with insecticides.
- 3 days after being placed indoors, I spray it with green soap or a solution of soapy soda.
- I rinse thoroughly with a warm shower.
This is necessary so that, together with plants, pathogens of various diseases or insect pests, such as spider mites, are not introduced into the house.
As soon as the temperature indicator dropped below 10 ° C, I enter:
- hibiscus;
- philodendron;
- anthurium;
- fuchsia.
I leave up to 7 oC:
- Kalanchoe;
- spurge;
- crassula;
- oleander.
I try to add plants on a cloudy day to reduce stress from a change of scenery.
Plant transplant
Some indoor flowers go into dormancy no earlier than October, so they have time to adapt after transplanting.
For transshipment, I choose a pot that is 2 cm larger than the previous one. I try to purchase ceramic or clay containers, as they conduct air well to the root system.
Before the event, I wash it thoroughly with soapy water.
I carry out the procedure, adhering to the order of actions:
- I carefully remove the flower from the pot.
- Examining for broken and rotten roots. I carefully cut off the damaged parts with a sharp instrument and process with crushed activated carbon.
- I place it in a new container.
I transplant plants only healthy and not flowering. If signs of disease or damage by insects were found, then first I fight them.
I leave the plant if it is in the process of flowering. I try to postpone the procedure until spring. However, this is not always possible. If you need an urgent transplant, I recommend doing this:
- Transplant the plant only by transshipment.
- 12 days before the procedure and 12 days after, treat the flower with any growth regulator, since it has a strong anti-stress effect.
Disinfection of plants
Mandatory procedure after indoor plants have been brought in from the street. Since the leaves can host such parasites as:
- ticks;
- whitefly;
- aphid.
And the causative agents of various diseases that can have a detrimental effect on the background of a weakened immune system.
Unfortunately, pests manifest themselves not only in the warm season.
Care rules
In the fall, the plant is prepared for a dormant period. All processes are slowed down, so it is important to reconsider the care measures.
First of all, I cut back on watering. From abundant to moderate, and for some flowers - rare (once a month is sufficient). I use only soft, settled water.
By abundant, I mean that the soil in the pot remains moist, but there is no water in the pan.
Moderate - between waterings, the soil has time to dry out to a shallow depth.
I also reduce the number of sprays. As soon as the heating season begins, I carry it out 1 time in 7 days.
As a dressing, I use complex formulations once every 30 days.
Properly prepared plants successfully endure the winter period, wake up quickly in spring and delight with their rich flowering.
