After harvesting greenhouse crops, gardeners usually uproot them and prepare the greenhouse for winter. But I believe that before the onset of frost, the greenhouse can still be used with benefit. I even use the greenhouse in the winter, growing herbs and strawberries in it. But, of course, this is because I have it heated. If your greenhouse is not heated in winter, then after harvesting in it, you can still use it again until severe frosts come.
Usually summer residents collect tomatoes, cucumbers and eggplants in the greenhouse in early July. Therefore, in August-September, it is already empty. And since it is quite warm outside at this time of the year, I recommend planting crops with a short ripening period in the greenhouse, for example, onions, garlic, herbs, radishes, radishes.
What to plant at the end of summer in a greenhouse
Usually gardeners plant greens, onions, garlic there.
Garlic and onion
When empty greenhouse beds are formed, onions and garlic are a safe bet. These crops are great for frost, completely unpretentious in care, are distinguished by fast ripening periods. With fertilized soil and good keeping conditions, onions and garlic will ripen a month after sowing.
Greens
Spinach, arugula, rhubarb, salads also grow rapidly. They are not afraid of frost, do not require a lot of light. After sowing, the beds will only have to weed, loosen the soil, water and periodically thin out.
Radish, radish
Also unpretentious in growing crops. Their roots are formed 3-4 weeks after germination. Radishes require a lot of light and do not need to be fed.
Dill, fennel, coriander, parsley, basil
These greens also grow well in greenhouse conditions at the end of the warm season. They will fully ripen within 30-40 days after sowing. Of all the herbs, parsley is considered the most capricious. It takes a long time to rise and requires a lot of light.
Siderata
They are distinguished by a powerful root system and a rapidly growing green mass. These plants are excellent soil fertilizers. They should be sown either in the vacant beds, or in late autumn after harvesting. Before frosts, the green mass is cut off and buried in the ground. Thus, the earth will be saturated with nitrogen.
Common siderates are:
- cereals;
- cruciferous;
- legumes.
As you can see from all of the above, even after harvesting the main crop in the greenhouse, it can be used profitably before the onset of winter frosts. The main thing is to decide what exactly you want to grow in order to properly prepare the soil for sowing.
