Today, there are several quite plausible versions of where this name came from. As for the cologne itself, it was first made more than three hundred years ago. This remedy was first mentioned in 1694. At that time he did not yet have such a bright name, but the pharmacy description of the infusion, consisting of alcohol and a number of essential oils, was present in the records of pharmacists from Germany.

But the release on an industrial scale and the implementation of this tincture, which has a non-standard aroma, was taken up by Giovanni Maria Farina, a German with Italian roots. He inherited a shop from his uncle, as well as a unique tincture recipe: 64 percent alcohol and extracts from three plants - bergamot, lavender, rosemary. One of the versions of the name is that the composition of the product contains three components of plant origin. As for the manufacturer, he called it "o-de-columns". This word meant "water from Cologne", naturally, with a characteristic aroma. It went on sale mainly as a hygiene and medicine.

To prove their case, they decided to slightly change the original formula, adding three additional components to it: essential oils of orange flowers, bergamot, lemon. Three main and as many additional components became the reason for the creation of its name. Gradually, pharmacists, in order to attract customers to their products, began to include their components in the composition of "Troinoy". But the recipe remains a classic, in which there are three main and as many additional components.

In the nineteenth century, in the second half, the production of the Triple Cologne was established at the Brocard manufactory. It was Heinrich Brocard, who founded the manufacture, who created a new technology for the production of essences for high concentration perfumes. The invention made it possible to obtain more aromatic substances from plants. This is how the following theory of the name of the cologne appeared: in the product from Brocard, there were three times more essential oils than in the rest.
