My experience in construction has more than a dozen years. Over the years, I have met many interesting people with whom I happened to work in the same team.
I remember one partner - an elderly locksmith with whom we changed pipes at the facility. Every movement of this middle-aged man showed that he "ate the dog" in plumbing. He was just an excellent worker: he did everything quickly, efficiently, confidently, did not hesitate and was not distracted by trifles.
And so we began with him to dismantle old pipes and process metal parts. I will note that my partner held the grinder confidently in his hands, but now he worked with it in a strange way. When cutting metal, sparks flew away from the locksmith.
Not only was it weird, but also inconvenient. Since then I had to turn over the grinder casing, reinstall the support handle. At some point, I even flared up a little and expressed my dissatisfaction with my partner.
I will say that many other employees of the brigade were also dissatisfied with this state of affairs. Then an experienced locksmith decided to justify his actions, and he did it perfectly.
The partner said that several years ago he dismantled a metal pipe using a grinder and a 200th disc. At some point, the instrument jammed, the disc cracked and flew in different directions. One sharp fragment dug into the locksmith's boot. Fortunately, the shoes were tarpaulin, so the shard did not reach the leg. It is clear that the worker was very frightened. Other fragments fell into the grinder's shroud.
The partner summed up that after this incident he began to hold the grinder only so that the spray would fly away "from himself." The story surprised the workers of the brigade and dotted the "I".
A few practical tips from a seasoned locksmith
- 1. First of all, you must always put on a protective cover on the grinder. Especially if the work is carried out on metal.
- 2. A mandatory attribute when working with a grinder is safety glasses. It is best to use a special mask.
- 3. When working with a grinder, you need to ensure that splashes do not fall on exposed skin and clothing. Sometimes, fragments of the disk can fly in the direction of the flight of the spray. In the case when sparks fly "away from you", the risk of injury from sharp fragments of the disc is minimized.
Some more tips for beginners
If you have little experience with a grinder, it is better to put on a tight protective robe. You need to hold the tool very tightly, otherwise it will simply fly out during the cutting process.
Please note that when cutting metal parts, stress may develop in them. In such cases, it is advisable to opt for a gas cutter.
If working with a grinder is a new experience for you, then immediately learn to keep it "on yourself". In this position, it is easier to understand how the instrument will behave in a given situation. And when you have already gained experience in cutting parts, you can rearrange the casing, the handle and work so that the spray flew "away from you."
