For gardeners in most Russian regions, frost resistance is an important criterion when choosing a variety of roses. Such crops are not afraid of diseases, bloom up to frost, successfully tolerate low temperatures in winter and do not require careful shelter. The main thing is to prepare the bushes for wintering. I offer you a selection of the best winter-hardy roses, the description of which will help you make a worthy choice for planting on your personal plot.

Double Delight (Double Delight)

The variety was bred in 1977 by American breeders, belongs to the hybrid tea garden group. It is a strong, spreading bush with erect, moderately thorny, densely leafy shoots from 0.9 to 1.5 m high. Leaves give the shrubs additional decorative qualities: they are of a rich dark green color, glossy, have a beautiful regular shape.

Already at the end of May, buds begin to form. When they bloom, their color resembles vanilla ice cream poured with raspberry syrup: the petals are creamy white, and the edging is red-raspberry. Slowly opening buds gradually increase the width and intensity of the raspberry border.

Terry flowers, up to 12-14 cm in diameter, 1-3 on the stem. They are distinguished by a strong and persistent sweetish fruity aroma, in which there are notes of strawberries and spices, are excellent in cut.

The variety is absolutely unpretentious, frost-resistant. Resistance to rain and powdery mildew is weak, to black spot - medium.

Black Cherry (Black Cherry)

The multicolored variety, American selection, belongs to the floribunda group (abundant flowering). The black cherry rose got its name because of the large, almost black buds, which eventually open into velvety flowers of a deep dark red tone. Under the influence of the bright sun, they practically do not fade. They have a very light pleasant aroma.

An actively growing shrub reaches 1 m in height and width. Shoots are erect, strong, leaves are dark green matte.

The variety is able to withstand temperatures as low as -30 degrees. The plant tolerates partial shade and hot weather well, is undemanding to care, endowed with immunity to powdery mildew, rust, black rot.

Chippendale

Rose - scrub (shrub species, in the southern regions it is represented by a semi-vine species), re-flowering, created by German breeders. It is considered a classic, old variety, but with the characteristics of a modern variety.

The bush is strong, actively growing, of medium size (about 1-1.2 m in height and 1 m in width). Leaves are leathery, large, elongated, dark green in color.

During flowering, the bush is strewn with a large number of eye-catching bright double flowers. They can be orange, apricot or pale pink. The aroma is strong, thick, pleasant, with a fruity note. Flowers stand perfectly in cut.

The variety can easily overwinter at -27 degrees. Resistant to rain, powdery mildew and black spot. In landscape design, it is used to decorate arches, sculptures and pools. Looks great in a flowerbed among perennial plants.

Golden Celebration (Golden Celebrity)

The variety of English selection is distinguished by very large double flowers (14-16 cm) of bright golden color, with a more intense tone in the center. The aroma is intense, sweet, with hints of tea and strawberries. In rainy weather, the flowers can become covered with "freckles" - small red spots.

The bush is sprawling, but compact, rounded: up to 1.5 m in height and 1.2 in width. In the southern regions it grows much larger. The branches are slightly prickly, flexible, drooping gracefully. The leaves are bright green with gloss.

The rose is great for growing on a trunk or as a climbing tree. This variety is quite gentle for the middle lane, so the plant will have to be covered with spruce branches, lutrasil, or set arcs.

Paul's Scarlet

Climbing rose has been popular all over the world since its inception: both in hot and cold regions. Bred culture in Great Britain in 1916.

My bush is already several years old, and every year it amazes me with its bright flowers with a light honey aroma. At the beginning of flowering, semi-double roses have a rich red hue, then they become bright crimson, and then cherry. 3-5 buds bloom on the stem, the diameter of the flowers is 6-8 cm. In addition, the Paul Scarlet rose is one of the first to bloom.

The bush is formed by rather thorny erect and actively growing shoots. It reaches a height of 3 m and more, in a width of 2.5-3 m, so I installed supports. Leaves are matte, dark green in color.

The variety is endowed with good resistance to rainy weather and frost, medium resistance to diseases: powdery mildew and black spot. For prevention, I carry out the treatment of the bushes without waiting for the onset of symptoms. The rose grows well on poor soils and in partial shade.

If in your area the temperature does not drop below -20 degrees, the plant will not need winter protection. At -30 and below, shelter is necessary, at least hilling the root collar with dry soil.

New Dawn (New Dawn)

Climbing rose of American selection is very popular in many countries of the world. New Dawn has earned attention not only for the beauty of its double pink flowers, but also for its unpretentiousness, good resistance to diseases and adverse weather conditions, as well as frost. It reproduces well with cuttings and recovers quickly after transplanting.

The rose bush is powerful, spreading, formed by long thin thorny, strongly branching shoots. On supports, they grow up to 6 m long. The leaves are light green at first, then gradually darken, become gray-green.

The flowers of this variety are cupped and reach a diameter of 8 cm. On clear, sunny days, they are pale pink, and in cold weather they turn dark pink with bright yellow stamens in the center. The flowers do not fade in the sun and do not lose their visual appeal after prolonged rains.

The aroma of New Dawn rose, delicate, fragrant, with a barely noticeable apple note, persists throughout the flowering season: from the beginning of summer until the first frost.

Eldorado

The variety, created by American breeders, belongs to hybrid tea roses. A beautifully flowering culture is distinguished by high decorativeness, resistance to diseases and a long flowering period.

Eldorado is a low (up to 1 m), compact shrub formed by powerful erect shoots. It grows in width by 60 cm. The leaves are elongated, bright green, shiny.

The flowers are densely double, have a classic attractive bud shape with chiseled bent petals. When fully blooming, they are almost spherical, the diameter varies from 7 to 10 cm. On one stem, they are usually placed singly, sometimes in 3 pieces. The color is golden yellow with highlights of salmon orange and pink tones. May change shades depending on the weather. Rose has an attractive aroma: delicate, pleasant fruity-floral. The aroma lasts a long time even after cutting.

The variety is frost-resistant, undemanding to soil fertility and lighting (it blooms profusely in partial shade). During rains, it retains its decorative effect, average resistance to powdery mildew and black spot.

The presented varieties of roses are recommended for the middle zone and regions with a more severe climate. Although the crops are winter-hardy, for a safe wintering they should still be covered with spruce branches or fallen leaves.
