It is not surprising that the houses in the northern regions of our vast homeland were very different from the houses in the southern regions. The climate matters a lot. So in the north, the estate and the peasant hut were united. Today we will talk about this construction technology in more detail.
In the northern regions, the living rooms of houses rose significantly above ground level. This was done due to the fact that some parts of the buildings were built on top of others. People lived on the second floor, and on the first floor there were pantries, chicken coops, pens for small livestock.
In the yard there were necessarily inclined platforms. They were made from a pair of logs with knurling. The entire first floor was usually occupied by barnyards. There, in addition to the barn and barn, there was also a stable with a carriage house. An interesting name was given to the uppermost room, located under the roof. They called her "pigeon". As a rule, this room was given for needlework.
The second floor was used to store hay. On the wall, as a rule, there was a sledge where carts and sledges were put. When it was a harsh winter, the frosts did not recede for a long time, the peasants lived quietly in comfortable conditions. They didn't even have to leave their yard.
Some buildings were built outside the estate. These included a barn, a bathhouse, and a barn where the crops were stored. These structures were erected as follows: people gathered and went to look for a suitable area for construction. Having found such, they began to build many barns adjacent to each other. Barns with baths were erected similarly.
Baths were almost right next to each other. As a rule, they were built near the bank of the river and always on a surface with a slope. This was done for a good flow of water from under the structure.
Residents of the northern regions did not save on building materials. They actively used the forest, cut thick logs with a diameter of at least 25 cm.
To separate the residential second floor from the barnyard, a log reel was used. It was coated with clay, and under the bottom they arranged floors from boards. Thanks to this, the residential part was warmer and more comfortable.
For the manufacture of roofs, chipped plates of wood, called shingles, were used. As a rule, larch was used. The upper room - stuffed cabbage - was insulated with moss and clay.
