A tool for the plumber and electrician - a miniature pipe cutter. Testing on sewer pipes

Still, the Germans know how to present their instrument beautifully. When I received it by mail, I was surprised, instead of a small compact device I received an interesting, beautiful, eye-pleasing box.

And there is such content in it, scroll through the gallery:

The presentation box contains three tubes with a diameter of 40, 32 and 20 mm. as well as rubber sealing cuffs

He added a pipe with a diameter of 50 mm for the demonstration himself, cutting it off with a grinder, as is usually done. Crooked and burr.

And of course, the most important item from the package is the pipe cutter. "Knipex BIX" two-piece articulated. This design allows the tool to be versatile for pipes of different diameters. A latch is provided to prevent it from opening when carrying or transporting. Photo in the gallery.

We proceed to the test, from the set we took a tube with a diameter of 20 mm, grabbed it with a pipe cutter and began to rotate the pipe. I felt slight resistance, in two revolutions the action took place:

The pipe was easily cut. I honestly thought it would be a little more difficult.

I performed the same action with pipes with a diameter of 32 and 40 mm, naturally, the load on the arms increases, but not critical, photo in the gallery:

No surprise, the pipes were split in half without any problems. By the way, according to the manufacturers, the knife is made of surgical stainless steel from the city. Solingen

Solingen is renowned worldwide for its high quality blades, knives and other cutting tools. His name is protected as a trademark, and on March 19, 2012 the city was officially named "Solingen - City of Blades" (Klingenstadt Solingen)

By design, the cutter can be moved to the edge of the body, for flush cutting of pipes:

By the way, having removed the cutter body, a surprise awaited me, namely, spare blades in a special pocket:

The most important pipe, for me as a plumber, is a pipe with a diameter of 50 mm, which is widespread and installed everywhere, we cut it. Here I will show you how "Knipex BIX" cuts polypropylene water pipe with a diameter of 25 mm for cold water with a wall thickness of 2.3 mm. Let's see how he copes with it:

The pipe wall thickness for this pipe cutter is limiting, the manufacturer claims a maximum cut of 2.4 mm

The pipe cutter coped well with the 50th "canal", the cut from it is clean, there is no need to remove the rags of plastic that could be the cause of the blockage. The compact size will allow you to crawl into those places where it will be difficult or impossible to work with a grinder, for example, when inserting an additional tee into the laid sewer. Unfortunately this pipe cutter does not chamfer. We'll have to do this with additional manipulations. Knipex has something to work on. But electricians using pipes for wiring will be pleased with this development.

What do you think about the "KNIPEX BiX" construction?
