The first thing to do is sniff the water from the well. It is best to do this in two stages: first, the water must be heated to about 25 degrees and sniffed, and then do it again, bringing the temperature to 50 degrees.
Provided that you don't feel anything suspicious, you can relax. But if an unpleasant smell comes from the water, you need to understand what exactly is its source. What smells can there be:
- beauty - the presence of hydrogen sulfide in the water (you cannot consume such water under any circumstances);
- oil products - their presence in water;
- chlorine - water contains this element and it is very dangerous to drink it;
- rot - organic pollution is present in the water.
The second point is a visual inspection of the well water, checking it for transparency. If the water has a shade, no matter what color, then it contains trace elements, and, moreover, not the most useful, and even very harmful to the human body. To assess the degree of transparency, water should first be poured into any clean container made of transparent glass.

3. How to determine water hardness
If there is a large amount of magnesium and lime in the water, the water will be hard and it is very easy to determine this:
- try to beat the foam in a solution of water and detergent - foam does not form with increased hardness;
- the presence of deposits and plaque on the cranes indicates that the stiffness indicators are higher than normal.
4. How was the quality of water from a well checked before?
People come up with different methods to check this or that parameter. In the case of well water, there are also several options for conducting its analysis.
- You need to collect water in a transparent container and put it in a dark place (basement, closet, and so on) for 3-5 days. If after this time the water begins to bloom, you cannot use water from this source.
- Put a few drops of water on the previously washed glass, and then leave them to dry completely. If there are drops of traces in place, we can confidently say that there are various impurities in the water.
- Try to make a solution with soap and water. If the water is of poor quality, then a soapy residue will appear, if it is good, the soap will dissolve.
- Boil the water for ten minutes, and then wait until it cools. Look at a kettle or pot. If the precipitate is yellow, then there is calcium in the water, dark - iron oxide.
- Throw a small amount of potassium permanganate into the water and see what color it turns into. If the color is pink, then the water is of high quality, suitable for drinking. If yellow, the quality is poor and you cannot drink such water.
