Today we will discuss the topic of organizing high beds. This technology is gaining more and more popularity, and it is no coincidence. Personally, I find tall beds a good idea for a site. Above all, this arrangement of space makes the maintenance of crops and harvesting more convenient. And the site itself looks much neater.
Another plus is that high beds can be made with your own hands from any materials. It all depends on your imagination and budget.
Below I will give ten of the most common options for organizing tall beds with your own hands.
High beds of boards
This option is one of the most popular. Wood is an affordable material. If desired, logs can be used instead of boards. Such a structure is easy to assemble with your own hands and, if desired, move to another place or disassemble for the winter. If you want to add accents to the garden, the board beds can be varnished or painted.
Tall beds of vines or branches
This option, in addition to its direct purpose, can serve as an element of landscape design. Wicker beds can be given the desired shape, and outwardly they resemble decorative flower beds. Assembling such a structure is quite simple: place the pegs around the perimeter and start braiding them like a basket. As a result, it turns out very beautifully, although you will have to spend a lot of time.
Tall straw beds
A great option for a small area. By the way, you can decorate the veranda or terrace with bales. It looks very decorative. Straw is considered an affordable option, so the economic component will also please. However, this solution also has a minus: there will be enough straw beds for one season, after which they will have to be built anew. After all, straw does not withstand prolonged exposure to moisture. In addition, if the straw is not cleaned sufficiently, seeds can sprout in the beds.
Stone beds
A durable and very aesthetic option that can beautify any garden. However, this method cannot be called budgetary. Especially if there is a preference for the color or shape of the stones.
Brick beds
Is there a brick left after building a new house or summer cottage? Great - it can be used to arrange garden beds. Such beds, as well as stone beds, look beautiful and very neat. It is possible to build structures up to a meter or more. However, in order for the structure to be reliable and even, it is necessary to have minimal masonry building skills. Therefore, this option can also be called relatively complex and more energy-intensive.
Plastic beds
High beds can also be made of plastic. Such material will ensure long-term use, it is easy to pick it up in any hardware store, and it costs quite acceptable. Another advantage is the convenience of working with the material. Sheet plastic is suitable for arranging beds of any length.
Metal beds
Not the most common option, but no less successful. For the device of the beds, both sheet metal and strips connected by welding can be used. This design will last for more than one year.
Concrete beds
Another option requires building skills to implement. Such beds look succinctly as an extension to various structures. The concrete structure is durable and long-lasting, but you can't call it a budget one.
Bottle beds
I consider this option the most affordable. After all, in the garden or in the country there are always bottles of lemonade and water. For arranging the beds, you can use both glass and plastic bottles. Of course, the glass construction will look more attractive. To build a bed of the desired shape, the bottles are laid out in rows and fastened with cement mortar for strength.
Gabion beds
Gabions are mesh containers made of wire filled with stones or materials of similar properties. An inexpensive and very aesthetic option that can become one of the design elements of a rocky garden. Despite its impressive appearance, the structure is mobile and, if desired, can be moved to any corner of the garden.
