Causes of rotting pepper

Most often, rot appears on the fruits when the culture is affected by one of the following diseases:

  • Top rot. The disease can be recognized by the appearance of dry brown spots on the tops of the peppers. The disease progresses, the spots take up an ever larger area, and the culture stops growing. Fruits affected by apical rot become unusable. The main cause of the disease is illiterate watering or nitrogen deficiency in the soil.

  • Late blight is another common disease, a symptom of which is the formation of spots of olive shade. They grow quickly and lead to the death of the bush. Fungi provoke the disease, which, moreover, can be carried by the wind throughout the entire area, infecting other plants. A moisture regime that is not suitable for a plant and thickened plantings can provoke a disease.
  • Blackleg is a fungal disease that affects peppers at the seedling stage. The disease can be provoked by contaminated soil or close sowing of seeds, as well as violations of temperature and humidity conditions.
  • Spotted wilting. The disease can be recognized by the yellowish-brown, burn-like spots appearing on foliage and fruits. Aphids, thrips and cicadas are considered carriers of the disease.

Growing healthy peppers in a greenhouse

In order not to run into problems, it is important to observe the following conditions for greenhouse cultivation:

  • Do not forget to loosen the soil to provide the root system with the necessary air exchange.
  • Watch out for humidity, which should be within 60%.
  • Ventilate the greenhouse space regularly.
  • Do not forget about healthy feeding.
  • Provide plants with good light, but do not expose them to direct sunlight.
  • Planting plants is not crowded, but at intervals. Ideally 25 centimeters.

Healthy plants outdoors

We have no control over the weather, so growing peppers outdoors is, of course, more difficult than growing in a greenhouse. But here, observing the rules, you can minimize the risks:

  • Choose the correct planting site with sufficient light.
  • Avoid planting in low areas where water can stagnate.
  • Before planting plants, feed the soil with complex fertilizers containing potassium, phosphorus and nitrogen.
  • Do not over-water. It is enough to water as the topsoil dries up.
  • Do not thicken the planting.
  • Do not forget about systematic loosening.

How to save the harvest

So, if you nevertheless encountered a problem, determined the cause of the occurrence, removed the affected plants from the site, you can start treating the culture.

Sick bushes need good feeding. I prepare the following composition: in a bucket of water I dilute 2 tablespoons of potassium carbonate and 2 tablespoons of calcium nitrate. Pour a glass of working solution under each bush.

Every week I sprinkle the peppers with a solution of calcium chloride at a concentration of 1%.

If the problem cannot be solved in simple ways, I resort to the use of special drugs.

From infections of a fungal nature, "Alirin-B" shows itself quite well. To prepare a solution, a couple of tablets of the drug must be diluted in ten liters of water. Water the plants with the finished composition. The product can also be used for spraying. In this case, you will need 2 tablets and a liter of water. The procedure must be repeated three times, maintaining an interval of seven days.

If you do not want to use strong drugs, you can use an alternative method. Helps against fungal infections crushed chalk in the amount of two tablespoons, diluted in a liter of water.

There are many more recipes for dealing with the problem. However, I always try to anticipate the problem rather than fight it. Therefore, I recommend that you carefully monitor your plants and provide proper care.

Good luck to everyone and a healthy harvest!
