It is surprising that, despite its venerable age, the TT pistol remains one of the most widespread in the whole world. The weapon created by the legendary Soviet designer, for obvious reasons, has long been outdated, but despite this, it does not lose its relevance in matters of combat use. TT, including serial, is still being produced. What brought such fame to the pistol?
The Tula Tokarev self-loading pistol was developed by Fyodor Vasilyevich Tokarev back in 1930. Then he was adopted by the army and internal affairs bodies of the USSR. The pistol was created as a modern replacement for the revolvers of the Nagant system and Mauser pistols, which remained in operation since the days of imperial Russia. The pistol was made under the new Soviet caliber 7.62x25 mm TT, which replaced the imported 7.63x25 mm Mauser.
From 1932 to 1933, the TT pistol was modernized several times. Mainly for the purpose of improving the manufacturability of production. The first batches amounted to only a few thousand samples of new weapons. However, later, in the period 1930-1953 alone, over 1.7 million copies of this short-barreled weapon were produced in the USSR. In 1944, the pistol was transferred to a 16-round magazine. The last modernization of the TT took place in 1947. In the future, in the army and the police, it will be replaced by a more advanced PM.
Nevertheless, even after the official replacement of the TT, it will not disappear anywhere. Most of Tokarev's old pistols will go to warehouses in the "bins of the motherland". And in the 1950s, on the basis of the design of Tula Tokarev, the first sports pistol, P-3, appeared. At the same time, the license for the production technology of the Soviet pistol will be transferred to more than 50 countries of the world. Most of them at the beginning of the second half of the 20th century will enter the socialist bloc. Easy to manufacture and relatively cheap TT will be used on all continents: Hungary, Vietnam, China, Egypt, DPRK, Poland, Romania, Yugoslavia, Iraq, Pakistan, Egypt. This is not a complete list of countries that will establish their own production of the Tula Tokarevs.

Even after the collapse of the Soviet Union, the TT pistol continues to be used (including officially) in dozens of countries. Of course, time and progress do not spare the old design, and today the TT is leaving the forefront. However, the pistol is still used in law enforcement agencies, collection services, as well as in individual army formations. Like many other Soviet legacies, the TT pistol was turned into a commercial brand. Today, dozens of varieties of sports training, pneumatic and traumatic pistols are produced under his brand.
