Machete in Soviet style: knife " Taiga-1", which was made for the special forces of the USSR

Many very interesting artifacts have survived from the Soviet era, including special tools and devices. One of these is the Taiga-1 knife for all occasions, which was produced at Soviet enterprises for the needs of the army, special forces, as well as rescuers and gamekeepers. With all confidence, this device can be called a real Soviet machete.

The knife is one of the most ancient, utilitarian, and therefore important tools in everyday life and everyday life of a person. Especially when it comes to doing work or work in difficult conditions. Alas, most conventional knives are unable to cope with seemingly simple tasks like chopping, sawing, biting and digging. Of course, there are many other tools for this. However, due to various circumstances, it is far from always possible to carry a "utility box" with you. In this regard, designers are forced to combine different devices into one.

Just such a tool was the Soviet UVSR "Taiga-1" - a special-purpose knife, which was created for the power departments and economic structures of the USSR. You can even say that it was a real Soviet machete (though a machete is still a knife, but these are subtleties). The special vehicle had a blade 212 mm long. The total length of the tool was 347 mm. The blade width is 41 mm at its narrowest point, and 80 mm at its widest. Thus, the machete is shaped like a scapula. And the funny thing is that this shape was deliberately given to the blade - this is a small shovel!

There are small teeth on the butt of the blade, which make it possible to use the tool also as a saw. Also, with the help of "Taiga" it was possible to bite the wire, chop and cut. In fact, out of 10 problems that can appear in front of a person in nature, with the help of HSSR, from 8 to 9 can be solved. In addition, the knife had a hollow handle, which made it possible to carry a pencil case with all kinds of useful trifles. By the way, the "terrible" Soviet abbreviation UVSR in the name of the tool stands for just "Device for rescue operations."

Needless to say, there were some drawbacks at the knife. Firstly, the "Taiga-1" was far from the most comfortable grip. Secondly, the instrument was conceived as a mass instrument, and therefore it was not made of the highest quality steel. As a matter of fact, a "consumable" Soviet machetes very quickly rusted without proper maintenance.
