Most beginners know the corner as a material for welding serious rigid structures. The corner has 2 shelves, the thickness of the metal is quite serious, much thicker than the profile pipe.

These shelves have the same dimensions, and it is customary to say 45, 50, 75 corners, these are dimensions in millimeters that indicate the length of the shelves. But sometimes it would be nice to take a thin-walled corner with shelves of different sizes for welding light structures.

These are not for sale, but you can easily do it yourself. Using the example of my work, I will show beginners these homemade light corners, people with experience in working with metal should know this.

Now I am engaged in welding repair of the sides of a Gazelle car. Or rather the lower parts of the sides. Here the factory fastening of the sides to the hinges was torn out. It is necessary to strengthen these places and weld the loops already more seriously.

These are the places that we will strengthen. Corners with different shelf sizes would be ideal here. The required size is 40 by 20 mm. Also, thick corners are not needed here, a 2 mm thickness is enough. You can't buy these, but we can easily make the necessary corners ourselves.

Here it is, a ready-made corner with different shelves, or rather one shelf 20 mm, the other 40 mm. The thickness of both shelves is 2 mm, so it turned out to be the ideal material for our purposes. Experienced people understood everything, but for beginners I will show you how and how.

And here is the blank for our corners. This is a profile pipe with dimensions 40 x 20 mm, 2 mm thick. We just need to cut it with a grinder along the edges.

For the convenience of such work, I have a simple homemade boat. Regular readers of the channel have known this adaptation of mine for a long time, so you can also read about it separately, watch the video, it will be useful.

So we will cut the pipe along the edges, but here I will also show one little trick that will make this work well easier.

Naturally, we firmly fix the profile pipe with clamps so that it does not move when cutting with a grinder. And, very importantly, I take a piece of chalk and just lead it along the edge of the pipe.

It turns out that the edge has now become very clear along this white line, we boldly guide the disc when cutting. Cutting without this line is worse and more stressful, believe me. I will show the moment of cutting itself with multiple zooming in.

That's all friends. We made the right corners for our tasks. As you have seen, this is not difficult at all.

I repaired the sides.
