The welder came up with an accurate marking of the pipe for cutting with a grinder at 45 degrees. Without calculations and geometry

Last week I came up with a simple DIY tool for marking a round pipe. According to this marking, we cut the pipe with a grinder at exactly 45 degrees. This is necessary to connect round pipes at a 90 degree elbow.

If you search for such information on the Internet, then you will stumble upon methods with long calculations to make a template out of paper. And only according to this template, you can normally cut it with a grinder with good accuracy. This is what the template looks like.

You see how much you need to draw to make it. But I like to translate complex problems into simple ones without losing quality. I will present my homemade product from 2 corners, made in literally 10 minutes. This device is suitable for all pipe diameters, naturally for our garage and summer cottage needs. And it will also serve our grandchildren, because it is made of metal!

Here it is - a universal homemade product for marking. Two corners at some distance from each other and also at 90 degrees to each other. We fasten with tacks in this position with 2 braces.

The bottoms of both front corner shelves are at the level of the rear corner top. Now watch how this thing works.

The longitudinal corner rests on the pipe with its shelves so that its top will always be along the pipe axis. This means that the transverse corner will be in a position at right angles to the axis of the pipe. We go further - the front shelf of the transverse corner in this case is obtained at 45 degrees to the pipe axis. Now let's do the markup.

We put a point at the end of the pipe. We also put one more point on the opposite side of the pipe. We apply a corner with a shelf to this point and draw a line along the shelf on the pipe. Its length is approximately slightly larger than the pipe diameter. On the second side, you do not need to make this line.

We measure the outer diameter of the pipe. We mark this distance with a dash on the line drawn along the pipe.

On the transverse corner on both shelves there are lines like this. These lines are in line with the top of the longitudinal corner. We install our structure so that the lines on the shelves are strictly above the line on the pipe.

We press the pencil to the shelf of the corner and move everything so that the pencil lead is on the mark-mark, this is the deferred pipe diameter.

And from this point we make a semicircular marking in one direction, and then in the other. The pencil is always pressed against the angle shelf so that it is 45 degrees to the pipe axis.

We turn the pipe 180 degrees so that the opposite mark on the end is at the top. Pull it out so that the transverse corner goes beyond the end of the pipe. And we also mark out a semicircle, using another corner shelf for the guide.

Here is a side view of the pipe markings. It is fashionable to connect these lines, but you can not connect them, all the same we go when cutting with a grinder's disc and should not go too far to the side.

I will make the same marking on the opposite end of this piece of pipe, we will cut the ends according to the marking and then cut the pipe in half. At the end, we will try to connect the cuts to each other and check the right angle and what will be the conjugation in this joint.

We cut off the ends according to the markings, now let's look at the result.

It makes no sense to describe, everything can be seen in the photo. A simple adaptation turned out, but the accuracy of this marking is excellent. The markup is done quickly and easily.
