One of the largest rivers in the world is the Amazon. Water resources account for 18 percent of the world's total. This river is characterized by almost inexplicable and unexpected phenomena. 1. A river with a secret
The largest river in South America never ceases to amaze scientists. Firstly, its waters, falling into the ocean, desalinate it for several thousand kilometers. She does not have a standard channel. The Amazon can split into many separate branches and then merge into a single stream. A huge number of smaller rivers flow into it.

3. Wave from the ocean
A huge wave comes to the Amazon twice a year, rising 800 kilometers upstream. It is accompanied by a crazy roar, which appears in thirty minutes before the wave itself.
The phenomenon also has its own name - Pororoka. Translated from Portuguese, it means "roaring wave". During this period, the waters of the river flow in the opposite direction, forming a huge breaker. The salty water flow becomes more powerful as the river narrows. The wave height is from four to six meters, and its speed is from 20 to 27 km / h.
This phenomenon attracts surfers from all over the world. This activity cannot be called safe, but when danger stopped truly enthusiastic people... right - never. Such a wave is observed here on the days of the equinox - in spring and autumn (twice a year).
According to zoologists, it was the Prophet who became the reason that marine animals live in the Amazon. A striking representative is the pink dolphin. Most likely, these are the descendants of ordinary sea dolphins that got into the river and were forced to adapt to new habitat conditions.
