Very often summer residents complain that the ovary falls off the tomatoes. This fact suggests that there is no proper care of the plants. I want to warn you about some of the mistakes that vegetable growers make. You need to adhere to all the rules of agricultural technology in order to get a good harvest of tomatoes.
Improper watering
For tomatoes, you need to choose the right watering. They do not tolerate drought and do not need strong moisture. Some time ago, I could not understand why the leaves of the tomatoes in the greenhouse are falling. I reduced the amount of watering, began to ventilate the room more often, and the leaves stopped falling off. The whole reason was the excessive humidity of the air and earth. It is easier for tomato bushes to survive drought than excess moisture. At the same time, various fungal diseases develop.
No pollination
Outdoor tomatoes have no problem with pollination. Insects do this, and the plant gives an ovary. In a greenhouse, tomatoes simply do not have such an opportunity. I often open doors for bees and other insects to fly in. If the weather is cold, then you have to artificially pollinate. I shake the stem of the bush lightly. Pollen from one flower flies to another - this is how pollination occurs.
Coldly
Tomatoes love warmth. If it gets colder, then the plant stops growing, the fruits do not set well. If tomatoes remain in the cold for a long time, they die. Do not pour cold water on tomatoes. It is worth remembering that even at a temperature of 15 degrees above zero, pollination may not occur. At this temperature, the pollen will not be able to mature. If the fruits are tied in a cold greenhouse, they will fall off the bushes.
Hot
Too hot temperatures are also unfavorable for tomatoes in the greenhouse. In this case, the pollen becomes sterile, and the ovary cannot form. For pollination to occur, you need to maintain a temperature in the greenhouse of at least 20 degrees Celsius and moderate humidity. In extreme heat, the leaves wilt and the tomatoes themselves can get heatstroke.
Poor seed quality
Many gardeners collect their own seeds for planting next year. They often contain bacteria and fungal spores. Such seeds rarely produce healthy plants. To achieve a generous tomato harvest, I buy seeds from trusted producers in specialty stores. There is no point in saving on this.
Lack of sunlight
Tomatoes need a lot of sunlight for the ovary. To preserve the inflorescences, it is necessary to spray with boric acid and growth stimulants.
Using the wrong variety
You need to know the exact variety of tomato. A large number of them have been bred. Some of them are planted only in open ground, others are suitable exclusively for cultivation in greenhouses. The method of growing different types of tomatoes varies greatly. Do not forget about the climatic conditions of your region. I always choose hybrids with good disease resistance. Taste and yield are also important to me.
Lack of fertilizers
You need to be aware that tomatoes need fertilization, but you should not apply them in large quantities. Not only their shortage is harmful, but also their excess. If there is a lot of nitrogen, then the growth of foliage will accelerate, there is simply not enough strength for the ovary. All nutrients are used to strengthen the green mass. Nitrogen is applied before the first inflorescences appear. When the fruits are poured, potassium must be added. I always monitor the soil and carry out chemical analysis.
Falling leaves
Leaves fall off with improper watering and insufficient lighting. One of the reasons is the lack of chemicals in the soil where tomatoes grow. The lack of trace elements is characterized by strong foliage and flower fall. They fall off due to illiterate watering and damage to the roots. In such cases, it is necessary to shed the ground with a solution of potassium permanganate, ensure proper watering and remove bad fruits from the bushes.
Advice
- Close doors and windows at night in the greenhouse if they were open for ventilation during the day. This will help maintain a favorable climate for tomatoes.
- Before a sudden cold snap in the greenhouse, it is necessary to install a heating device - an electric stove or a potbelly stove.
- It is advisable to water the tomatoes with settled warm water and not use cold water from a well or a watering tap. During the day, you can warm up the water in the sun in wooden barrels.
- If the air temperature in the greenhouse drops below +15 ° C, it will be necessary to additionally heat the water for irrigating the tomatoes. You can use batteries to warm up the greenhouse during the day.
