Few things in our world give a man as much self-confidence as a properly selected cologne can. However, for a long time, perfumery remained inaccessible to most people. And only in the XX century, the triumphal procession of affordable perfumes and colognes began on store shelves. For a long time, the public's favorite was the “Triple” cologne. A strange name for a hygiene product: why was it so dubbed?
The history of the "Triple" cologne did not begin in the USSR or even in the XX century. The first mentions of it are found in the 17th century in German lands. True, then "cologne" was used by German pharmacists and pharmacists rather as a remedy. Was used "Triple" for rubbing on the skin for the purpose of disinfection, and even used internally as a herbal tune. The first "Triple" was made in the pharmacy of a German with Italian roots Giovanni Maria Farina in Cologne from lavender, bergamot and rosemary extracts.
By the end of the 18th century, Cologne bergamot tincture had become very popular in Europe. In France, she was in the greatest demand. There she was nicknamed "Cologne Water". For a long time, the Germans hid the recipe, but not without the help of Napoleon Bonaparte, it was nevertheless revealed, after which the French skilled pharmacists added three more ingredients to it. After that, the drug Dzhovanie Farina began to be called "Triple" already in France.
After the war with Napoleon, "Triple" ended up in Russia. By that time, the tincture, which in France, was recognized as just a perfume, was already produced in several workshops. In Russian aristocratic circles, the tool was nicknamed "Triple O-De-Colon from Napoleon." In the middle of the 19th century, a truly mass production of the "Triple" was launched at the Perfumery Manufactory of Heinrich Brocard.

Since the cologne was very expensive and at the same time extremely popular, all kinds of fakes and "crafts" poured into the market. In the 20th century, cologne was produced in several European countries at once, including the Soviet Union. The name "Triple" stuck to the perfume because of the number of ingredients in the early perfumes, although the most recent versions of cologne were very different from what they did in Germany in the XVII century.
