House heating system, complex mechanism. And if it is configured and assembled correctly, then no intervention is required during its operation. And only in the off-season should periodic maintenance of the boiler and the hydraulic system be carried out.
There are some unobvious moments in heating that the owner of the house cannot know about or the installers made a mistake, or did not report to their breadwinner customer information. I will try to do it for them. Let's start simple:
Error: do not turn ball valves and do not bypass valves
Experienced homeowners know that ball valves, especially on central hot and cold water systems, love to "sour", "stick". And they cease to fulfill their function, do not close and do not open. And this moment occurs on that shut-off valve that has stood motionless for a long time. What to do to avoid such a situation on your pipeline? It is necessary, once every six months, and it is better to produce once every three months opening and closing taps. Thus, the stagnant scale on the moving parts of the shut-off valves gets off. The situation is the same with safety valves. They need briefly open (less than a second) to find out that the mechanism is working.
Error: constantly adding water to the system
An important and simple point, the correct system is rarely fed (pressure is injected into the heating circuit to the set parameters of 1-2 bar). If you need to very often fill the system with "fresh" water, then you most likely have somewhere there is a leak and must be found and repaired. Instead of pouring a fresh portion of water into an established system. From the fact that there is oxygen in the water that you re-fill, etc. unfriendly impurities, it will react with your piping and equipment. Which leads to the formation of oxides and scale in the circuit, which makes the heating unusable. Moreover, it is not recommended to use automatic feeding of the system.
Error: close the heating radiators tightly
An interesting point, aluminum radiators installed in the heating system are capable of emitting hydrogen. Why is this happening? By itself, aluminum actively interacts with the surrounding world, at the molecular level, this can be seen if the top layer of a piece of metal is removed, for example by scratching it. At the point of exposure, the metal has a bright silvery color. But in just a few minutes, it darkens from interaction with oxygen in the air, becoming covered with an oxide film that protects the metal from destruction, a striking example of aluminum dishes.
In the heating system of aluminum radiators, the oxide film can be broken and hydrogen is formed when interacting with water. Which, standing out, accumulates in the radiator. Therefore, when the air is released from the radiators, it is not recommended to highlight the place of descent with an open flame.
And if, in the off-season, or just when the radiator is turned off, turn off the taps, an airtight container is created, hydrogen can critically increase the pressure, which will lead to the destruction of the aluminum register. Therefore, if you need to turn off the radiator, then close only one. So that the gas can expand into the system through the second branch pipe with or without a tap.
Error: Route the safety valve tube down the drain
With the best of intentions, the heating installer can route the relief valve discharge line down the drain, seemingly correct. But this is not the case. If the safety valve begins to drain fluid from the system, then this indicates a problem in it. Accordingly, if the liquid is drained into the sewer, then the owner of the house may not know that there was an emergency, for example, in his absence. Therefore, the safety valve connection must be released into a container such as an empty plastic canister. And then, by the presence of a coolant in it, it will already be possible to judge the problems.
Error: Leaving handles on improperly installed taps
Perhaps out of inexperience, some installers or householders who assembled the heating system with their own hands installed a shut-off valve between the boiler and the security group. Naturally, you cannot do this. This is due to the fact that in case of "accidental" closing of such taps, an explosion of the boiler may occur, especially on a solid fuel one. The liquid expanding in the heat exchanger raises the pressure very strongly when the taps are closed, and if the safety group with an explosive valve is outside the heating circuit, the boiler will be blown apart with terrible force.
Therefore, if you have made such a mistake, it is strongly recommended to remove the handle from this tap, so as not to block it by mistake. I also recommend removing the handle from the external expansion tank so as not to accidentally leave it closed.
Error: Do not change the heating medium every five years
In the heating system, the coolant should be changed at intervals of five years, this is due to the fact that ethylene glycol, propylene glycol and others non-freezing liquids become aggressive towards heating elements due to the loss of properties of additives added to it during production.
With ordinary water, acting as a coolant, the opposite situation is, changing it and constantly refilling it is not recommended.
