Over the past several decades, a huge variety of different technologies have appeared in the world aimed at making human life easier. One of them is LED bulbs. Nowadays, it is difficult to find at least one apartment, office or shop that does not have LEDs.
Today I will not describe all the advantages of such lamps. There are really a lot of them, so I will highlight a separate article for this topic. Let me just note that LEDs have a long service life, help to save electricity, and also provide a large luminous flux.
I often came across articles on how to extend the life of LED lamps. Some people dismantle the plastic cap for this. But I find this method to be dangerous. Let me explain: here you decided to wipe the dust from the floor lamp and forgot that there is no cap on the lamp. Obviously, you will get a good shake of the current.
Today I will tell you about another method, which is safer and very effective. And you don't have to dismantle the cap.
Let's first try to understand why long-life LEDs burn out. In most cases, this is due to the increased current. The most effective option would be to lower the current, but an ordinary user will not be able to do this on his own. Just imagine that you need to re-solder the circuit in the lamp. Can you handle it? So I think not.
Simple and effective method
I suggest saving the lamps from overheating by cooling them down. How can this be done? That's how:
- 1. First, I advise you to wait until the end of the lamp warranty, and only then take on its revision. On the body, it is necessary to make markings at a distance of a couple of centimeters from the junction of the cap and the lamp. Be sure to keep this distance, otherwise you may damage important components.
- 2. The distance between the points on the markings should also be about 2 centimeters (plus or minus 5 millimeters).
- 3. The same marking should be done on the case.
When I finished with the markup, I got this kind of fun light bulb.
- 4. Next, you need to arm yourself with a screwdriver and a thin drill (I used a 10 mm one). Remember, do not run the tool at high power, run at minimum speed.
- 5. According to the markings, we make neat holes in the lamp itself and in the body.
Don't worry if the markup is asymmetrical. This will not in any way affect the properties of the lamp, but only affect the appearance. Perfectionists can use the ruler!
Ultimately, you should get a lamp like this:
Do not forget to clean up after yourself, as there will be quite a lot of shavings left.
Why did we do this? Thus, air circulation is created in the lamp housing, i.e. it is cooling down. As a result, the life of the lamp is increased many times over.
Just do not use such lamps in bathrooms and other rooms with high humidity!
