Raspberry is one of the most popular fruit shrubs in garden plots. I grow several varieties on mine. One of them is the Phenomenon, and I would like to tell you more about it.

Description of the variety

The plant is a semi-spreading shrub, the shoots of which reach 3 m in height and are densely covered with sharp thorns. Light beige branches with a yellowish tinge are covered with large dark green, rough leaves.

Phenomenon blooms in mid-May. At this moment, the plant is covered with large, snow-white flowers with a lot of stamens.

The berries are cone-shaped and appear already in the first year after planting. The fruits are large, bright red, juicy, with a high sugar content and a pleasant, strong aroma.

I eat fresh berries. I use it for making pies, jam and compotes, freeze it for the winter.

Advantages and disadvantages

In the process of growing the Phenomenon, I highlighted a number of advantages of the variety:

  1. The harvest is high every season.
  2. High resistance to weather fluctuations and lack of moisture.
  3. It tolerates winter and frosts down to -20 ° C without shelter.
  4. Saplings quickly take root in a new place.
  5. Immunity to fungal diseases.
  6. The harvest is abundant, large, sweet, with a pleasant aroma.

But I can not help but draw attention to the shortcomings. Raspberries are attacked by pests such as:

  • spider mite;
  • weevil;
  • raspberry beetle.

Landing rules

I believe that the success of growing a raspberry tree and getting a good harvest lies not only in the correct care of the plant, but also in observing the planting rules.

First of all, I recommend choosing healthy seedlings with a good root system.

Choose a place for a raspberry tree in a well-lit place, with fertile soil, well-moistened, but without stagnant water.

I have allocated a place for planting near the fence, where the greatest amount of snow accumulates in winter. It is located at some distance from other plantations, since the bushes are actively growing and pumping moisture from the soil.

Boarding time

I advise you to start the event in late August - early September.

For quick rooting of seedlings, I introduced into each planting hole:

  • humus - 3 kg;
  • superphosphate - 200 g;
  • wood ash - 100 g.

All components are thoroughly mixed with the topsoil.

I dug holes 30x30 cm in size 60 cm apart. Gently spread the roots and sprinkled with a layer of mixture, lightly tamped.

With a sharp, thoroughly disinfected in potassium permanganate shears, I cut the seedling up to 30 cm and freed it from the leaves.

I watered the planting site in such a way that one bucket of water was enough for 3 plants.

Follow-up care

For raspberries to produce high yields, they need care.

First of all, it consists in watering. The first one I carry out before flowering. Then - during the period of fruit formation. And the third - at the end of the collection of berries. For each bush I use 1 bucket of soft, well-settled water.

I would like to note that the Phenomenon responds positively to nitrogen-containing supplements. I add nutrient compositions in the spring, during the flowering period and before winter.

I advise you to pay special attention to pruning. Since the bushes are actively growing and forming shoots, I carry out the event throughout the season. This not only prevents shrubs from spreading throughout the garden, but also improves fruiting.

In conclusion, I would like to say that The Phenomenon is one of my favorite late-ripening varieties. If you follow all the rules for planting and care, you can get a high yield. The fruits are large, sweet and aromatic. They are delicious and the jam is excellent.
