Seat selection

When choosing a site for a garden bed, it is advisable to take into account the fact that the best predecessors of zucchini are tomatoes, potatoes and other root crops. But after pumpkin crops, it is better not to plant zucchini, since they have the same infections and pests.

The land for cultivation must be loose and fertile. About 15 days before planting, I dig up the beds, at the same time adding a little humus or manure to them. For 1 sq. m I bring in 1 bucket of organic matter. I also add 2 tbsp. l. superphosphate, 1 tbsp. l. urea and potassium sulfate and 2 glasses of ash.

Outdoor cultivation

The distance between bushes can be different. But I am guided by one criterion - each plant should have about 1 sq. m of space.

I dig holes to a depth of about 20 cm. I pour 5 cm of manure at the bottom and sprinkle it with earth. I set the seedlings together with the earthen lump in the hole and fill them with soil so that a small depression remains in the hole. This will make it much more convenient to water the bushes.

After planting, I water the plants and mulch with sawdust, humus or compost. Mulching allows you to water the zucchini much less often, as the moisture evaporates longer.

I determine the amount and frequency of watering based on weather conditions. Zucchini should not be in dry ground. The leaves and ovaries will begin to dry out and the fruits will become lethargic. The main rule is to keep the soil moist. But the bushes should not be flooded too much, as the ends of the fruits can rot.

Planting in a greenhouse

In the open field, zucchini are grown both by seedlings and seed methods. It is advisable to grow seedlings in the greenhouse.

I plant seedlings in early May, but if the weather is favorable, they can also be planted at the end of April. I preheat the soil with a stove. To maintain a normal moisture level in it, I mulch the beds with sawdust.

I plant seedlings in the morning, while the sun is still not hot. I maintain the distance between the holes within 70-80 cm.

I transplant the seedlings together with an earthen clod and bury them in the soil by 5 cm. At this stage, the temperature in the greenhouse should be + 14- + 15 degrees.

I regularly ventilate the greenhouse, but so that the temperature inside does not drop much. Plants can be covered with foil and made next to each of them along the hole. Watering is then carried out through these holes.

I water the seedlings only with warm and settled water. After the first ovaries appear, I increase the frequency of watering up to 3 times a week. At this time, under each bush, you need to pour 4-5 liters. A couple of hours after watering, I loosen the ground and at the same time remove all the weeds that have appeared. Then I mulch the soil with sawdust.

At the beginning of growth, I feed the bushes with ammonium nitrate. To do this, I dilute about 30 g of the substance in a bucket of water. Pour 0.5 liters of the resulting solution under each plant. When forming fruits, I apply complex mineral fertilizers.

Before flowering, I reduce the amount of watering so that the air in the greenhouse dries up a little. This will help the plants to form more female buds.
