One of the problems of floods in apartments is the pouring water from the tap, which they forgot to close while drunk condition, or during the repair of the water supply, the water was turned off, and the owner of the apartment simply forgot to close mixer. And later, water was supplied through the risers and water came from the tap, overflowing sinks and washbasins ...
In fact, if the drain and sewerage system are in working order, then the flood is not terrible, the system should cope. To clarify, with the correct operation of the water supply and the absence of blockages in the sewer pipes and the siphon.
But what happens if, say, in the sink and is the hole clogged with food debris or a rag? At the same time, it gushes water from the tap, filling the bowl. For this there is an overflow hole connected to the sewer, in theory it should help out and help. But is it? I decided to conduct a practical experiment on the sink, in which I recently cleaned the overflow with a new chemical method. Link to know-how at the end.
Will the overflow withstand the water pressure?
In the photo above, you can see the beginning of the experiment. Pre-recorded the meter readings before the mixer was supplied with water, thereby calculating the volume of water at which the overflow will start to "choke", in case of an unfortunate coincidence of circumstances.
Water confidently filled the sink until it overflowed, the liquid "fell" into the hole, slowing down the filling of the bowl. Photos with comments are uploaded to the gallery, scroll through.
The experiment spent 13 liters of cold water and 11 liters of hot water. Every sane reader of my blog, of whom the majority are among my subscribers, will draw conclusions from the experiment. From SW. Mikhailov Victor (plumber). Link to the new overflow cleaning method here.
