Everyone who grows raspberries on their land dreams of a rich harvest of juicy berries. But, unfortunately, raspberries do not always live up to expectations. One of the main keys to success is the correct selection of the variety, but this is not all. Therefore, today we will talk about the secrets of a bountiful harvest of raspberries, I will introduce you to the methods and rules that I actively use myself.

The landing site plays an important role

Raspberries are very fond of the sun, therefore, the area for planting should be well lit. If your raspberry plant is located in the shade, you can not dream of a good harvest. In addition, light deficiency can occur due to plant thickening. To avoid this, observe the minimum interval of one and a half meters between the rows, and between the bushes themselves there should be at least 70 centimeters. Compliance with this simple rule will not only ensure uniform illumination of the plants, but also protect them from most diseases and pests.

Watch out for the undergrowth

Pruning is one of the most important maintenance measures to ensure good, stable fruiting. Without proper care, raspberries tend to thicken. The fact is that every year about ten replacement shoots grow from the base of the bushes, and the same number of offspring stretch from the horizontal roots. If you see a large number of shoots, but they are rather weak, this does not mean that you will get a rich harvest.

Therefore, you need to get rid of young growth in a timely manner. I start this work in May-June.

If this measure is neglected, the shoots will weaken the mother bush, literally drawing out the entire supply of nutrients from it. As a result, we are seeing a decline in the yield. In addition, you will soon notice that the quality of the berries is also rapidly declining.

To get rid of the overgrowth, I arm myself with a sharp shovel. The shoots should be cut in the ground at a depth of at least three centimeters.

To achieve a stable high yield, you need to strengthen the branching of fruiting stems. This can be achieved by cutting to the first well-developed bud from the top. It is better to postpone this work until spring, when all winter damage is clearly visible on the raspberry tree.

By the way, another desirable action in the fight against thickening is the raspberry garter. For these purposes, you can use special trellises to which the plants will be tied. This way, each bush will receive enough light and air, and your raspberry tree will look neat. And harvesting is much more convenient this way.

Competent feeding

I think I will not tell anyone a secret if I say that raspberries, like any other crop, need nutrients for good fruiting. A thoughtful approach to feeding can also help to achieve an excellent harvest.

Raspberry bushes respond well to organics. Therefore, in the autumn, I give preference to organic fertilizers. Usually I bring in humus at the rate of at least a bucket per square meter of plantings.

In the spring, you can make compositions with a high concentration of nitrogen. It is best to make such dressings in late April - early May. Do not forget to moisten the soil well before applying the compounds. Also in the spring and at the beginning of the summer season, complex mineral compositions will benefit.

For a more lasting effect, it is beneficial to alternate root and foliar dressings.

Remember: an overabundance of fertilizers is just as harmful to the raspberry plant as a lack of them, so it is worth adhering to the measure in everything.

Keeping a raspberry tree and getting a good harvest is real if you constantly monitor the condition of your plants and follow the necessary care recommendations.

Good luck and good harvests to everyone!
