Tranquil neutral interiors are conducive to a good rest and are distinguished by special comfort and coziness. How do you make your home look exactly like this and at the same time avoid excessive neutrality, boredom and a feeling of flatness?
Designer Nika Dyuzheva offered 7 recommendations that will help to competently build a neutral, but at the same time voluminous and pleasant interior.
7. Observe the color temperature
In neutral interiors, it is important to maintain the same color temperature. At least in the main planes - floor, walls, curtains (if large window spaces).
The temperature difference will lead to a general inconsistency of tones in the interior. In order not to be mistaken when purchasing materials, take existing samples with you. This way you can correctly match them by color. During the selection of shades, match the samples as they will be presented in the apartment. For example, the intended shades of walls and floors should be tried on at right angles, and not in the same plane.
6. Create background
When building a neutral interior, it is enough to take one color as a basis. You can do two, but in this case, the second should be a subspecies of the first, which will complement it and create additional depth.
The dominant shade should be a versatile backdrop. Then it will be easy to choose furniture and decor for it. Over time, the interior can be easily transformed by, for example, replacing textiles. This is the advantage of neutral interiors - they serve as a good base and in the future will not conflict with new elements (furniture, curtains, and so on).
5. Choose the right texture for your style
When developing a neutral interior, it is also important to observe the compatibility of textures, since the stylistic load is carried not only by color, but also by texture. For example, a sofa made of velvet can be placed next to burlap curtains only in rare difficult cases.
In neutral interiors, textures play a very large role, since the color is muted. Some textures are typical for classic styles, others for more modern ones, so you need to track them and combine them correctly.
For example, for the Scandinavian style, minimally processed textures will be most appropriate - the way nature intended them: stone, wood, painted plastered walls.
4. Pay special attention to quality
Often, cheap, low-quality materials are most noticeable in stylistically simple interiors. In the absence of an abundance of bright decor and a complex combination of various elements of the eyes, this will immediately read.
For example, unnatural wood texture on laminate flooring, cheap doors, low-quality textiles will be very noticeable. Therefore, it is important to select the basis in a good price-quality ratio.
It is advisable to use materials of a quality level at least above average so that the flaws in the absence of distractions are not striking. This applies primarily to floors, wall coverings, textiles, doors, plumbing, tiles, stucco and moldings.
3. Arrange lighting
It is enough to remove the tulle, thereby letting in the light, and the improvements will already be evident. This also applies, of course, to neutral interiors. When, in one way or another, the outside world is open, the perception of the apartment expands and deepens.
You can't forget about artificial light too. In neutral interiors, the light becomes more accentuated. It is recommended to build several lighting scenarios, moreover, with different temperatures. For example, it is better to make evening floor lamps and sconces warm, they will beautifully highlight separate zones and make the interior more comfortable.
2. Rely on the principle of unity of concept
For neutral interiors, it is important to choose the right textiles and decor. If you have conceived a calm project, then you should not, for example, purchase strange, too ironic curtains. They must be part of a single concept. On the contrary, a detail that seems simple in isolation, inside a complex, multi-layered picture can play very interestingly and become part of a single idea.
With the help of decor items, you can add new textures, this will make the interior volumetric. If they fit in style, then the material can be different - ceramics, metal, glass, and so on. Chrome elements, silver or gold details will bring glare, which will also refresh the interior and help to avoid its flat perception.
1. Use tactile materials
Natural tactile materials or those that imitate them with high quality will make any interior better. Neutral - especially. Because such calm interiors are created for the sake of maximum comfort, coziness and relaxation.
Therefore, it is important that objects in such a house are pleasant to the touch: high-quality fabrics, natural flooring, which is pleasant to walk on, any other elements that give you a comfortable tactile sensation. In this case, when choosing materials, you need to rely on your own personal preferences and ideas about convenience.
