Carrots are unpretentious in cultivation, but in order to obtain a decent harvest, it is necessary to take into account the alternation of vegetable crops in the garden. It is important what vegetables were grown on the garden bed planned for planting carrots.

Precursors of carrots

Garden crops, after which it is best to plant carrots:

  • onions and garlic, which disinfect the soil, respectively, minimizing the likelihood of a vegetable disease;
  • carrots planted after strawberries acquire a sweetish taste;
  • cabbage, because it does not have the same pests and diseases with carrots.

I do not recommend planting carrots for 2-3 years in the place of cucumbers, since after them there is a lot of organic matter in the soil, which will make it difficult for carrots to grow. After parsley, you can plant, but pre-treat the soil with a solution of potassium permanganate.

Plants-neighbors

Plants planted side by side are essential for a good harvest and can help the vegetable grow normally. For carrots, ideal neighbors are:

  • garlic and onions, they will scare off carrot flies and other pests with their pungent smell;
  • tomatoes for which growing nearby is mutually beneficial;
  • legumes enrich the soil with nitrogen;
  • beets will be a good defender against diseases.

After carrots

After carrots, all plants of the Umbrella family are considered the worst option for planting, primarily the carrot itself. I do not recommend planting root crops, since they have the same nutrition, and the soil is already quite depleted. Also, planting pumpkin and melon crops would be an unsuccessful idea, they also need more fertile soil.

The ideal option for planting garden crops after carrots are:

  1. Tomatoes, eggplants and peppers, they are not very dependent on nutrient soil.
  2. Cabbage, salads, radishes, these vegetables will give the soil an opportunity to rest.
  3. Peas, beans, beans, which have the ability to absorb nitrogen and enrich the soil with it.
  4. Strawberries take root well after carrots and give a good harvest.
  5. As a siderat, it is very good to plant mustard.

In fact, with proper fertilization of the garden, sufficient introduction of the necessary mineral and organic substances and proper care of the plants, any crop can be planted. For correct crop rotation, I advise you to think over a plan for planting various crops on the site in advance. Some gardeners draw up a drawing on which they paint on the beds what to plant and at what time, for several years. This is very convenient and helps to keep the garden in perfect order.
