Spring is the most troublesome time for a gardener. You need to have time to plant seedlings, apply fertilizers, prepare a vegetable garden for planting, and so on. To ensure a good harvest, I always fertilize the soil first in the spring. Then the plants will acquire good immunity and give a high yield.
Organic fertilizers
As soon as the snow melted, I renew the peat layer, sprinkle the soil for future beds with ash. Be sure to use compost and humus. By the way, I prepare the compost myself.
There are several types of compost:
- peat-bearing. I use it to improve the quality of the ovary. Fertilize the soil with such compost at the beginning of summer, before flowering;
- made. The most versatile look. I always add tea leaves and potato peelings to rotten tops and crop residues. The main thing is not to add inorganic food waste;
- vermicultivated. Such compost is obtained as a result of the vital activity of earthworms. Crafting it takes patience and a well-ventilated iron box filled with paper or dry grass. I begin to prepare such compost in mid-February, and fertilize the soil in the spring, before planting.
To make the land bear fruit better, you can add a manure mixture. It all depends on your personal preferences and the purpose of the beds. I use a rake to level the manure. You have to work manually, but it turns out better. In order not to ruin future plants and shoots, I do not use fresh manure. Because of the urea, plants can literally burn out under a layer of such fertilizer.
Can organic fertilizers be harmful?
As an experienced gardener, I can confidently say that organic matter should be added very carefully. Too much fertilizer can kill the plant. Organic fertilizers are the ideal environment for fungal growth. It usually affects newly planted seedlings. The leaves begin to turn yellow and curl. It is quite difficult to defeat the fungus until the plant has taken root in the soil. In this fight, industrial antibacterial compounds or ordinary ash will help. If the soil starts to rot, I stop watering and sprinkle ash on the affected area. Then nature will do everything by itself.
Mineral fertilizers: when and for what to use?
The minerals that plants need can vary. Potassium and phosphorus are most often used in vegetable gardens. These elements are needed for the development of the plant and a good harvest. If you use only organic compounds that saturate the soil with nitrogen, then due to a lack of minerals, the crop may not even form. There will be no ovaries, and the flowers will not ripen into fruits.
I prefer to buy store-bought balanced mineral fertilizers, but you can use the following proportion:
- phosphorus fertilizers need 250 grams for each meter of planting;
- potash - 200 g per 1 sq. m .;
- nitrogen - 300 g per 1 sq. m.
Since minerals are quite easily washed out of the soil, I fertilize the beds 1-2 days before planting seedlings in open ground.
Should trees be fertilized?
In order to get a good harvest of apples, pears, apricots and plums in the fall, every spring I carry out treatment against parasites, in April I add superphosphate, and in May - potash compounds. The soil near each tree must be loosened so that all the nutrients can reach the roots.
Organic and mineral fertilizers act in conjunction. They must be used in order to get a good harvest, as well as increase the resistance of plants to pests and diseases. Following my advice, and you can grow your dream garden.
