The favorite berry of gardeners is raspberry, it is not capricious, it is difficult to find someone who will refuse it. An important point when growing is timely care for the berry in spring in order to avoid diseases. Follow simple rules, and then you can harvest a generous harvest of fragrant berries.
Spring processing of raspberries
With the beginning of spring, it is necessary to inspect the raspberry bushes, remove all diseased and damaged shoots. I carry out the procedure not earlier than May, when the frost is already over. Nutrients will be directed to healthy branches. I want to share how I do raspberry pruning.
Getting rid of bad shoots
Broken and split stems that could not withstand the frost are cut off. I also remove old branches. I shorten the damaged ones to the nearest unharmed buds, they will be visible by color.
Stimulating Raspberry Pruning
I shorten the tops by about 10 cm so that the lateral rudiments develop more actively. I begin this procedure after I have tied the branches to the trellises. 8 healthy stems should be left on bush raspberries. If the raspberries are planted in a ribbon way, then leave 20 shoots per meter.
Garter methods
After the raspberry trimming is complete, you should proceed with the garter. It is carried out before the buds open. Typically, it is done in two ways.
On trellises
This is the most convenient method for trench planting. Twine is pulled between the posts in 2 rows. Wire can also be used. This is done at a height of about one meter. Shoots are tied up 15 cm apart. At the same time, adult stems do not interfere with the growth of young shoots. The garter is used on small and large areas.
Garter bush
In the center of each bush, a special stake is installed, to which shoots are tied at a height of 1 meter. I also put pegs between the bushes. I tie up shoots at different heights. This helps to improve the lighting of the raspberry bushes.
Transfer
Some time after planting a raspberry plantation, it needs a transplant, as the soil is depleted on it. The shrub withers and the berries become small. Raspberries cannot be grown in one place for 3-4 years. First of all, it is necessary to prepare the soil on the site for transplanting: remove weeds and debris from the site, add organic additives. If necessary, then feed with minerals: lime and ash. The plot for remontant varieties is prepared in the fall. Raspberry bushes are planted in several rows - by the trench method.
Spring feeding
After the winter is over, I start feeding the plants. If you want to speed up the growth of raspberry shoots and increase yields, then in April you need to add bird droppings or fresh mullein to the soil, I add urea. To maintain moisture, I mulch the soil around the bush with straw and sawdust.
Every two years I feed with manure. In the case of regular feeding, the shoots will not ripen and will not survive the winter frosts. It is necessary to apply fertilizer for raspberries to a depth of at least 10 cm, because the roots are deep enough. I do not process raspberries with insecticides in the spring.
Pest control
In most cases, raspberries are prone to rust and white spot, anthracnose. Pests are larvae of flies, caterpillars, bedbugs, including raspberry glass, aphids, spider and raspberry mites, raspberry weevil, leafworm. To reduce the risk of disease, the roots of the plant should be treated with Agat-25K.
Old stems are burned, the bush is treated with a solution of Bordeaux liquid. To combat the spider mite, I treat the bushes with colloidal sulfur, and the drug Topaz helps with powdery mildew.
To combat pests and diseases, you can use folk remedies. As a prophylaxis against gray rot, I use pine needles. I spread it along the bushes. They use infusions of onions and dandelions, yarrow helps well. With the help of garlic, you can fight fungal diseases. Spraying is best done in cloudy and dry weather. Do not process during the flowering period.
