We continue the analysis of crazy advice from "fake" masters found on the net. To me, as an acting plumber, such recommendations are like a sickle on spikelets. I cannot remain silent when I see bad advice from copywriters who do not understand the essence of the matter. Why am I doing this? I want to clear the Internet of trash and bring these hacks to clean water.
Today, on parsing, two recommendations from "plumbers":
1) Do not pour boiling water into plastic pipes
Boiling water can break the structure of plastic, soften it and sometimes melt it.
Here comes the correction:
Naturally, nothing will happen from a single drain, but if this procedure is repeated more than twice a week, the pipe will be damaged and leaks will certainly occur.
Well, what's the objection? Of course, all of the above is nonsense. I will even say more, periodically you should pour boiling water into the inlet of the kitchen siphon, half a kettle. Why do it? Firstly, high-temperature water will wash away part of the fatty film from the surface of the pipes and at the same time disinfect the siphon flask. Water temperatures above 60 degrees kill most of the bacteria that cause sickening odors from the siphon.
This procedure should not be carried out on ceramic sinks, only on steel and artificial stone.
And what about pipes? Nothing will happen to them, most modern pipelines are made of polypropylene, this material, according to its characteristics, and as practice shows, it is able to withstand a temperature of 95 degrees for a short time without violating integrity pipeline.
2) You need to pour a glass of salt into the toilet and pour boiling water, I tell you why
I recently met such a headline in the open spaces of "Zen", naturally, as a plumber, I became curious about what was at stake. After re-reading, I fell into a "sediment". I have met such heresy for a long time, I briefly retell why such procedures are performed:
The woman often clogs the sewage system, which constantly smelled unpleasant in the toilet. Nothing helped her. And so, her mother-in-law advised her: "Pour a glass of salt DAILY into the toilet, to remove to remove blockages and odors." At first she did not believe what nonsense, she was indignant. But in the end, her husband also confirmed that at one time his parents also did this.
And what do you think? She began to pour a glass of salt into the toilet every day, pour boiling water over it all, and lo and behold, the smells disappeared, the blockages stopped appearing, food in the refrigerator does not end and banks have written off all loans. This story is 100% fictional.
Naturally, my readers understand that ordinary salt will not solve the problem of blockages in the "white friend" in any way. This tool is harmless and will only increase the load on the sewer network. But for the recommendation to pour boiling water into the toilet bowl, I would beat off the hack's fingers.
Remember, you can not pour boiling water into a ceramic toilet. From a sharp temperature drop, the toilet bowl may burst or crack the enamel. Which will lead to the replacement of an expensive device for removing waste products.
