I try to provide my garden with self-grown seedlings. To obtain viable, not overgrown strong seedlings, I use the necessary fertilizers, among which urea (carbamide) is necessarily present, which provides plants with nitrogen.

Representatives of the Solanaceae and Cucurbitaceae families are especially sensitive to the deficiency of this important element for the development of various crops. I prefer urea, as it dissolves well, and the nitrogen contained in this type of fertilizer is well absorbed by plants.

Preparation and application of urea solution

Liquid nitrogen top dressing allows you to quickly eliminate the lack of an important element in the soil. You can notice the trouble by the weakened growth of seedlings, pale leaves, thinned stems.

For watering vegetable seedlings, I take 2.5 tbsp. l. granulated urea, which I carefully stir until the grains completely disappear in 10 liters of slightly warmed settled water.

If I notice colors that have lost their juiciness, crumbling or fading leaves without signs of disease, then I resort to the foliar method. I need about 50 g of carbamide for a 10-liter container of water. I irrigate plants with nutrient liquid.

Some Tips

I take into account that seedlings need nitrogen even after moving to open ridges or greenhouse conditions. In such a situation, top dressing is mandatory.

For tomatoes, I prepare a solution of urea with a concentration of 5% 8-10 days after transplanting them to a permanent place. I pour directly under the root. The norm is 1 l / bush.

I feed the planted cucumber seedlings after moving to the ridges in 8-15 days. I dissolve 30 g of urea in a 10-liter container of settled water. This volume is sufficient for watering an area of 10 m2.

For foliar feeding of established young strawberry seedlings, I measure 10 g of urea. I actively stir the fertilizer in 2 liters of settled water. I irrigate the bushes with the resulting nutrient liquid. Consumption - 2 l / m2.

Seedlings of berry and vegetable crops are guaranteed to quickly adapt to new conditions and will allow you to consistently get a good harvest if you follow the feeding system. At an early stage of seedling development, it is imperative to provide them with a sufficient amount of nitrogen. For this purpose, I mainly use a solution of urea.

If you have experience in organizing seedling dressing using urea, please tell us about it in the comments.
