Sowing cucumbers at home for seedlings is not only possible, but in some cases necessary. In this case, you should pay attention to what depth for the seeds will be the most suitable. I note right away that cucumbers really do not like even the slightest injury to the rhizome, so it is necessary to plant immediately so as not to subsequently transplant the shoots.
You can plant home seedlings in several ways, the least traumatic and suitable for a capricious vegetable:
- planting each shoot in a peat cup will allow not to affect the root system at all, since it can be transferred to open ground with a container. The glass will decompose in the soil over time, and the roots will remain intact and intact;
- Cucumber stalks feel great in coconut or organic tablets, grow quickly and are then conveniently planted in greenhouses and greenhouses;
- eggshell halves filled with earth are a classic folk way to successfully grow cucumbers. The favorite method of our grandmothers is suitable for warm regions, since due to the small amount of soil in the container, cucumbers will have to be transplanted 7-10 days after sowing;
- a cost-effective and affordable way is to make your own cups for seedlings from paper, such as a newspaper page. The leaf is cut into strips, layered with earth and wrapped like a snail, seeds are sown in it, and then, without separating, they are moved to the garden.
Disposable cardboard cups, plastic utensils and other improvised means also work well. Such options save the finances of the gardener and are quickly disposed of in the future.
If we talk about the right time, then the most common period for planting cucumbers is the end of April - the beginning of May. In this matter, I always focus on the weather, climatic conditions and established temperature values. The geographical location should also be taken into account, for example, in the Urals and in other northern regions, time planting is postponed to the end of May, and the southern regions can start moving cucumbers to greenhouses at the end Martha. I also note the fact that capricious vegetables are planted in greenhouses a couple of weeks earlier than in open beds.
Factors that determine the ideal day for the procedure:
- analysis of previous seasons;
- constant temperature value not less than 5 °С;
- lunar calendar information.
The process of planting seedlings is common:
- preparation of seed material: selection, washing, disinfection and germination on wet tissue;
- processing and preparation of containers;
- selection and mixing of good soil - 2/3 of humus and peat land, 1/3 of sawdust, nitrophoska (10 g per 10 l of the mixture) and 15 g of wood ash;
- weekly watering and spraying.
I also note that the sprouts should be watered only with warm water, cold water will harm the plant.
