The Honey strawberry variety allows the use of berries universally. They are good fresh, they make excellent jams, jams, compotes. Juice is squeezed out of the fruits of this variety, they are used in desserts, fruit salads and frozen. The pronounced sweet taste of Honey strawberries is set off by a barely noticeable sourness. I could not pass by this variety of garden strawberries and landed it on my site.
Proper fit Honeyi
Planting strawberries is carried out exclusively in warm soil, so I started preparing the beds at the end of July. First of all, humus was added to the carefully loosened soil (you can use a mixture of fertilizers and ash). Then he treated the future beds with a solution of iodine and boric acid (10 drops of iodine and 2 g of boric acid per 10 liters of water), this helps to improve the soil by destroying pests and diseases.
The area where Honey will be planted was covered with black dense film material. It will allow you to maintain soil moisture, facilitate the care of strawberries, provide warmth to the root system, and accelerate the ripening of the crop.
The material was cut with a cross in the place where the holes will be located. The distance between the holes was 30 cm, between the rows 50 cm. The depth of the pits for planting came out from 12 to 15 cm.
seedling preparation
Healthy seedlings of the Honey variety have a bright, rich green color. I always pay attention to the roots, they should be pure white, without spots, growths and insects. On a young high-quality bush there should be at least 4 leaves, the width of the root neck cannot be less than 1 cm.
If the roots of the seedlings are longer than 10 cm, then they can be cut with a sharp knife. Dry or diseased leaves present on the seedlings are also cut off.
Inspected and prepared bushes are placed in the holes, after straightening the roots. Seedlings are covered with earth to the beginning of the upper part of the bush.
Watering and care
After planting young seedlings of Honey, I water them every day for the first 7 days. After that, I water once a week.
In the spring, plantings require treatment from pests and diseases. I spend it after the snow melts. I water the beds with Honey with a weak solution of potassium permanganate with the addition of a few drops of iodine.
7 days after treatment, I carry out the first application of complex fertilizers. I recommend using any formulations designed for strawberries. I re-feed after the appearance of peduncles and the setting of buds.
Reproduction varieties Honey
Reproduces Honey with antennae. To get a quality seedling that retains all the characteristics of the variety, I use only mustaches from bushes with the largest berries. In the spring, I plant them separately and grow them exclusively for new seedlings.
I advise you to trim the mustache after the first small bush appears on it, it will be of the highest quality and strongest. But, if a large number of seedlings are needed, then three bushes can be left on one antennae. Over time, they will all grow the same.
I try to separate young seedlings from mother bushes in the spring, after they overwinter together. This method allows my seedlings to fully form and have strong roots.
The Honey variety is not whimsical and does not require special care. Its only disadvantage is that it does not tolerate both a lack and an excess of moisture. Therefore, with heavy rainfall, I also cover young seedlings with a film.
