In the summer of 2016, I visited Kazakhstan. I flew to Astana, visited the resort Borovoye, flew to Ust-Kamenogorsk, and was in places where there were only a few travelers, extreme.
In many respects, Kazakhstan was not at all like I had imagined. I'll tell you about eleven points, which surprised me.
1. The capital of Kazakhstan is called the "Capital" - translated as "Astana" Kazakh.
2. Astana - a large, modern city with many tall buildings with unusual shapes.
3. Some people think that Astana was built recently from scratch. In fact, the city was almost two hundred years, and in Soviet times it was called Tselinograd.
4. Airport Astana - "silent airport". Hands-free only occasionally called in to land lost passengers and regular flights are no ads - very cool. Indeed, handsfree ads have long outlived their usefulness - there are boards with all the necessary information.
5. New Astana was designed by Japanese architect. Many buildings were built by European construction companies.
6. Five years ago, it was built in Astana Opera and Ballet Theater, reminiscent of Moscow's Bolshoi Theater. The theater built Swiss company by the Italian architect.
7. Many of the settlements at the same time have two names - Russian and Kazakh. For example the resort Borovoye Burabay simultaneously, and Ust-Kamenogorsk city Kazakhs reduced and simplified to Oskemen, with in English, too, the city now called Oskemen.
8. Kazakhstan was much more Russian-speaking, than I could have imagined. All labels are duplicated in Russian. Many ads are in Russian. In Astana, all speak in Russian, and even young Kazakhs know Russian language and communicate with each other largely in Russian.
9. In Kazakhstan there is a Russian word, which I had not heard before. This word "tokalka". Originally it meant "second wife", and now it is used in the sense of "lover" and this word is found even in the local newspapers.
10. East Kazakhstan surprises with its nature. Mountain landscape after a few kilometers of the steppe gives way, then the pine forest, and then lakes.
11. Kazakhstan has remained a very beautiful place, virtually untouched by man. Due to the fact that to get long and complicated, there are no tourists and the beauty of these places have seen only individual travelers, extreme. I was fortunate to be one of them ( http://ammo1.livejournal.com/739248.html).
