Tomato variety Early 83 interested me a few years ago. I was attracted by the early ripeness of the variety, its short stature and high keeping quality of the fruit. Juicy, sweet and sour tomatoes are versatile in cooking. They are consumed fresh, marinated, processed into juice and paste. They are grown in open ground in the southern regions of the Russian Federation, in other regions greenhouse cultivation is necessary.

I grow seedlings

Early 83 can be planted without seedlings, but I have noticed that seedlings produce stronger seedlings and higher yields.

I soak the seeds in a weak solution of potassium permanganate to disinfect them. For sowing, I use only those specimens that have sunk to the bottom of the container. After washing the seeds with running water, I treat them with any available growth stimulator, this increases their germination several times.

As containers for sowing, you can use disposable cups, small plastic pots or special containers for seedlings, which are sold in any specialized store.

I lower the seeds into the soil to a depth of 2 cm, water abundantly and cover with a film. I keep the containers in a warm place, with a temperature not lower than +23 °C. The first shoots appear on the 7-9th day. After their appearance, the film must be removed.

Growing a full-fledged seedling takes about 2 months. After this period, I begin to harden it. To do this, every day I take the containers outside, gradually increasing their time in the open air.

Landing in open ground

I carry out the transfer of seedlings to open ground only when the average daily air temperature does not fall below +20 ° C. At the same time, the soil warms up to the required minimum of +10 °C. I apply complex fertilizers to the soil before planting tomatoes.

Planting holes are placed at a distance of 40 cm from each other. I choose the depth depending on the size of the root system, given that the earth should cover the sprouts to the lower leaves.

Care

Early 83 moisture-loving variety. I water the plantings 3 times a week. For young plantings I use warm, settled water. About 800 ml of liquid goes under each bush. I irrigate only in the early morning or evening, when the sun is setting.

To avoid the appearance of a soil crust, improve soil aeration and provide better access to moisture to the root system, once a week I carry out hilling the soil around the tomato bushes. Simultaneously with hilling, I remove all emerging weeds.

Variety Early 83 has a feature to grow in breadth. To ensure the access of nutrients to the fruits, if necessary, I remove the empty side stems of tomatoes (stepchildren).

Pros and cons

There are no negative qualities and negative sides of the variety for me. Subject to the elementary rules of agricultural technology, tomatoes fully comply with the declared qualities, which include:

  • high yield;
  • versatility of the use of fruits;
  • resistance to diseases and pests;
  • high keeping quality;
  • good transportability;
  • pronounced taste qualities;
  • unpretentiousness to care;
  • dense and smooth peel;
  • juicy fruit pulp.

Variety Early 83 is suitable for growing even for beginner gardeners. It does not require special care and conditions from the owner of the site. In temperate regions, it is better to grow in greenhouses.
