Most summer residents try to save on the construction of a gazebo and make walls and roofs in it not from expensive building materials, but from climbing plants. I think it's best to wrap grapes around the gazebo. First, it is growing rapidly. Secondly, this plant is completely unpretentious in care. Thirdly, it will create really the most comfortable conditions for relaxing in the gazebo.
In this article I will tell you how to equip the roof and walls of the gazebo with grapes.
Vertical planting of grapes
This is one of my favorite grape growing methods. In the first year after planting, I form one vertical stem, and get rid of the rest of the shoots. On this vertical shoot, I leave 5 eyes when pruning. The next year I cut the bush not so much and pinch my eyes.
Long sleeve shaping
This method of forming a grape bush is also in demand among gardeners. I begin to form a bush when its height reaches half a meter. You can do this with or without a stem. It is important to consider here that the number of sleeves must be at least 4 pieces.
Arrangement of a high gazebo with the help of a vine
If the structure is of a non-standard shape and too high, then the two previous methods to form a wall and a roof of grapes will not work here. In this case, the vine should be put on the wall of the house and it will have to be alternated with a high and low stem through a bush. Otherwise, the lower part of the gazebo will not be covered with greenery.
What grape varieties are best suited for arranging a gazebo
I want to note right away that not all grape varieties are suitable for forming walls and roofs in a gazebo. When choosing them, attention is paid to:
- frost resistance;
- fast growth;
- ease of care.
The best varieties for sheltering gazebos, in my opinion, are:
- Moldova;
- Mascot;
- Lydia
- Isabel;
- Delight;
- Taiga;
- Victoria.
If you really want to make the most comfortable and inexpensive gazebo for relaxing in the country, be sure to plant vineyards near it. The main thing is to correctly choose the optimally suitable variety, starting from its resistance to pruning, resistance to frost, unpretentiousness in care.
If you do everything right, then in a year you will have a gazebo green in the warm season, in which you can spend summer evenings with family and friends.
