Sometimes it becomes necessary to connect a USB device at a great distance (for example, throw a USB modem higher to the attic in the country), but conventional USB extension cords start to malfunction already at a length of more than three meters. And yet there is a way to make a very long USB extension cable.
As you know, USB (and especially USB 2.0) does not tolerate long cables and extension cords. I repeatedly came across thin three- and five-meter USB 2.0 extension cables that simply did not work: devices were either not detected, or lost, or there were floating errors (for example, the printer sometimes prints, then No). The Yota USB modem turned out to be very critical in this regard. He did not want to work with any three-meter extension cord. The maximum is 1.8 meters.
You can buy a USB over twisted pair extension cable for 295 rubles.
These adapters simply connect a LAN cable (ready-made patch cords can be used) of any length up to 50 meters.
The extension cable only supports USB 1.1, but everything works stably (including USB 2.0 devices).
I connected a USB modem via a 20-meter cable, and the cable went inside the walls next to numerous other cables, and everything worked fine. Flash drives, printers work (of course, with a USB 1.1 speed limit - 1 megabyte per second).
Only hard drives with a USB interface do not work (they simply do not have enough power).
By the way, there are such extensions and for HDMI.
