Often in summer cottages there is a flower, which is commonly called garden chamomile. Common leucanthemum has several varieties. You can grow it easily, besides, it is a completely unpretentious culture that combines wonderfully in a flower bed with other flowers. At my dacha, chamomile can be found in several corners of the site.
Description of nivyanik
Summer residents call leucanthemum not only garden chamomile, but also leukantemum and popovnik. The plant can be annual or perennial. It is often a tall, rhizomatous herb with straight stems ending in inflorescences with two rows of pure white petals around a bright yellow center. Flowers can be up to 15 centimeters in diameter. My daisies bloom almost all summer, the first buds are already at the end of May. The stems of the plant are covered with fluff, bright green carved leaves are attached to the stem with short petioles. The size of the plate depends on the place of attachment - the higher the leaf, the smaller and thinner it is.
When the cornflower blooms
The time when you will admire the blooming daisies depends on their variety. On average, buds are formed by the end of the first third of summer, the end of the budding period occurs at the beginning of autumn. Here, too, you need to look at varietal features.
Growing cornflower seedlings from seeds at home
In order to plant a cornflower in the spring in the garden, I started work at the end of February. I prepared containers for seedlings, poured gravel into them, which will act as a drainage, laid soil in pots for flower crops (can also be used universal for vegetables), watered the ground and spread over its surface seeds. Further, he sprinkled the grains with soil, covered the containers with foil and began to wait for the seedlings. As soon as the seedlings appear above the soil surface, I will remove the film. From this moment I take care of the seedlings until the moment of landing in permanent soil - I water and loosen as needed.
When to plant cornflower seedlings in open ground
Seedlings will go to the dacha at the end of May, at this time the danger of frost is low. I usually plant chamomile bushes at a distance of 30 centimeters from each other, if the plants are very tall - 70 centimeters. The depth of the hole is determined by the size of the clod of earth, it should be one and a half times deeper. After planting daisies, I compact the soil around the plant and water it. If possible, the plantings can be mulched.
How to plant cornflower seeds in open ground
If I don’t have enough time to fuss with seedlings, I plant cornflower immediately in the ground. In central Russia, this can be done around the end of April, when the average daily temperature will be at least +15 degrees. I water the soil dug with compost with water and make depressions of two centimeters and at a distance of 30 or 50 centimeters. I sow and sprinkle the seeds with peat mixed with garden soil. I water the bed carefully from a watering can and cover with a film.
Nivyanik care
In order for flowering to be long and long, daisies do not need any special care. It is enough to plant in a sunny place, remove wilted inflorescences in time and water. This should be done once every seven days. After that, the soil needs to be loosened. You can feed the plant with manure, chicken manure, nitrophoska and bone meal. The frequency of top dressing can be once every ten days. For the winter, the plant will have to be warmed. This must be done so that the roots do not freeze. I cover the bed with spruce branches, you can use other materials.
The flower, beloved by many gardeners and gardeners, is not only beautiful, but also undemanding to care for. You can plant both seedlings and seeds directly into the flower garden.
