The most budgetary and easiest way to make a mold for plaster

Hello, friends!

I want to share with you a simple and budget way how to make a silicone mold for gypsum. Compared to molded silicone, this method is several times cheaper. And materials for manufacturing can be bought at any hardware store. And with a little dexterity, the forms are obtained no worse than from molded silicone.

Here's what you need:

  • Silicone sealant acetic;
  • Gypsum or alabaster;
  • Liquid soap;
  • Cardboard, tape and hot glue.

Step 1.

I made a formwork out of cardboard. I cut out the pieces of the desired size and glued them with wide adhesive tape on one side. This is necessary so that the cardboard does not get wet.

Step 2

Assembled formwork with hot glue.

I made the formwork based on the size of the part from which I will remove the form.

Step 3

I diluted liquid soap in water, then lubricated the part and the formwork from the inside with this soapy water.

Step 4

I'll warn you right away, acetic silicone stinks a lot, so it's best to work with it in a well-ventilated area or even better outside.

I squeezed the silicone into the soapy water and began to knead it. Don't worry, silicone won't stick to your hands in soapy water.

Step 5

I transferred the silicone to the part and began to smear a thin layer over it. The layer thickness is approximately 5-7 mm.

For such a large part, it took me 2 tubes of silicone. In the end, I will calculate how much the form cost me.

Step 6

After 4 hours, the silicone is dry and you can continue to work.

I spread the gypsum and poured it into the formwork over the silicone.

I vibrated a little with my hands so that the bubbles came out.

Step 7

After 2 hours, I dismantled the formwork.

The silicone mold easily moves away from the part.

Step 8

I spread the plaster again and poured it into the mold.

After 2 hours I got the finished part.

The copy turned out just fine, without flaws.

What happened for the price:

  • 2 tubes of silicone (I took the cheapest one) - 200 rubles;
  • Gypsum for formwork about 2 kg for 10 rubles - 20 rubles;
  • I do not consider cardboard;
  • Scotch took 10 rubles;
  • Soap did not believe it took very little;
  • Hot glue 1 rod - 10 rubles;

TOTAL: 230 rubles for a large form.

If you pour liquid silicone, then the price of such a large mold will be approximately 800-1000 rubles. The difference is obvious!
