Basically, hyacinths are propagated by bulbs. Growing a flower from seeds is quite difficult. But I decided to try, and I succeeded. True, not on the first try.

Is it possible to grow hyacinth from seeds

I must say right away that this process is quite laborious. Hyacinth almost never inherits the characteristics of the progenitor.

The appearance of the seeds

Seeds are very small, no more than 2-3 mm in diameter. The shape is spherical with a rough surface. The color is black with whitish "tails".

Collection of seed material

During the flowering period, you should choose stronger buds and mark them. Harvest seeds from mature pods that are yellowish amber in color.

Cut the bolls on a warm, dry day.

Then dry them in the usual way, collect the seeds, sift and remove plant debris.

Store planting material in paper bags in a cool, dry place.

Landing time

Seeds ripen in early August. To obtain new specimens, they should be sown in early September.

The sowing time can be determined by focusing on the period of planting the bulbs.

Growing a plant from seed

When cultivating hyacinth with seeds, it is necessary to study the process in advance and strictly follow the sequence of actions.

Planting material preparation

First, the seeds must be discarded. To do this, soak them in salt water. Floated specimens are not suitable for landing.

Then disinfect the seeds in any fungicide solution for half an hour. You can use a bright pink solution of potassium permanganate, keeping the seeds for 1.5 hours.

I recommend treating the seeds with a biostimulant ("Zircon", "Epin"). From such processing, the bulbs are healthy and strong.

Container and soil preparation

For sowing seeds, use a shallow but wide container. Fill 2/3 with store-bought soil or homemade potting soil.

At the bottom there should be drainage and holes made to drain the liquid.

Disinfect the container and soil beforehand. Scald the box with boiling water, warm the soil with an oven or spill it with a fungicide solution.

Proper planting of seeds

Before planting, moisten the ground, draw grooves no more than 2 cm deep. Cover the seeds with fine sand, lightly sprinkle with water from a spray bottle.

Then stretch cling film over the container, transfer to a dark place. Keep the container there at 4-5°C for a month. Do not forget to control the condition of the soil and remove the resulting drops of condensate.

After the specified time, transfer the container to a bright place, remove the film. Keep the substrate moist, create fresh air in the room, while protecting it from drafts.

Sprouts will appear only six months after sowing.

sprout care

Many seedlings die. The remaining bulbs form small pear-shaped "embryos".

If you want to grow new specimens, provide them with:

  1. Watering. Irrigate with settled water every 3-4 days. Do not get water on the above-ground parts of the culture.
  2. Top dressing. Use store-bought fertilizer 20-30 days after sprouts appear. Do not violate the instructions that come with the products. Feed seedlings every 2-3 weeks.
  3. Loosening. Run it as needed.

At the end of the first season, do not dig up the onions. Next year they will grow up, and treat them as with adult bulbs.

Hyacinths very rarely inherit varietal characteristics. The process of breeding plants by seed is simple. Growers wishing to grow flowers from seeds must first familiarize themselves with the various nuances and make the necessary preparations. And then you can expect a positive result.
