Last year, a few hydrangea bushes in my garden began to turn yellow. Knowing that hydrangeas change color most often due to soil and environmental factors, I began to deal with the problem. In this article, we will analyze the main reasons for the fall and drying of the green mass.

Why do the leaves dry

The very first and most common reason for changing leaves on hydrangeas is improper care of the crop. The first signs that something is wrong with the plant should be the changes that have appeared in the color of the hydrangea crown. At this moment, the main thing is to immediately begin to act, then the shrub can be saved.

dry soil

The most common reason is moisture deficiency. Due to a lack of nutrients, the plant begins to lag behind in development. When planting a hydrangea in your area, you immediately need to remember that this is a water plant, so you should immediately draw up a watering schedule, and before planting, think carefully about the place where bushes with “pompoms” will grow.

If it so happened that the plant was thirsty for some time, it needs to be cast off - every day each bush of water should receive at least 15 liters of water, and in the mornings and evenings - a shower. A flower should not grow in the sun, if it is planted in the sun, a canopy should be built over it.

Low air humidity

Moisture-loving hydrangea will not be able to grow in a climate with constantly dry air. The edges of the leaves will wilt and eventually dry out. Noticing that the leaves began to die and crumble, immediately proceed to the rescue operation. In the morning and evening, spray the bushes or water them with a hose. You can put water containers under the plants, this will also help increase the humidity around the hydrangea.

Excessive humidity

It also happens that the gardener pours plants, fearing drought. This also has a negative effect on the bushes. The roots of hydrangeas, due to their constant presence in earthen slurry, begin to rot and then die. In this case, you will have to dig up the plant, remove the roots that have begun to deteriorate. Sprinkle slices with activated charcoal powder. Make a landing hole in a new place and move the bush there.

Wrong lighting

A large amount of sun does not have the best effect on hydrangea bushes. If they are constantly under the scorching rays, they can not only wither, but also die. When choosing a place for hydrangeas, it is better to give preference to options in partial shade. I have them growing next to fruit trees and berries.

Root system damage

Often, weak hydrangea roots suffer during transplantation. Roots should not be cut unnecessarily, only diseased parts should be eliminated. I try to give the roots time to strengthen before planting, for which I soak them for three days in Zircon.

Causes of wilting leaves

Hydrangea can wither due to:

  1. Skvoznyakov. You can solve the problem by planting a crop next to tall plants or a fence.
  2. Poor soil composition. The problem with the land is solved by the preparation of the planting pit and the soil mixture in which the seedling is planted and covered. The acidity of the soil should be no more than 7 pH. If it is higher than this value, add wood ash (500 grams per square meter). Loose earth is made by adding sand and peat to it.
  3. Temperature fluctuations. If the bush is forced to exist in conditions of temperature swings, the tips of the leaves turn black and they die. To return the color to the green mass, the optimum temperature should be maintained - from +20 to +23 ° С. Affected areas will have to be cut off. In cases where there is no greenery left on the bush, there is no need to despair. Water the hydrangea daily, in about a month new buds will awaken, and over time, fresh leaves will grow.

Noticing that the hydrangea began to wither and turn yellow, think about what could cause this condition. If the answer is found, immediately proceed to eliminate the problem, then you may be able to reanimate the plant.
